Because you opened up $15M in cap space? Atlanta got better. TB won it last year and have mostly retained their core pieces. You'll be in contention again to not finish last.

We finished with the same record as Tampa. It was literally a tie breaker, we have retained our core and added a new offensive coordinator. Barring catastrophic injuries, we will be in contention to win the division again.

Are the Saints fighting for playoffs or the Superbowl?

Probably just playoffs, but if they make the playoffs anything can happen especially if the defense continues to be a top tier unit in the current state of the NFC. Which I'm honestly fine with at this point. We had a 15 year run from around 2006 to 2020 where we were considered among the top NFC contenders many of those seasons.

I'm fine with watching a team that is likely going to be in the above average to good range the next couple years. Some people just say "blow it up" and start over, but I just don't see the need right now. We have a nice combo of young talent and vets that are going to be on their way out soon enough. As long as we continue to do solid drafting, this shouldn't be an issue.

Several teams “blow it up” and get stuck for long periods of time sucking. There is a "luck of the draw" factor when it comes to getting an elite QB, which is for the most part the main ingredient needed to be a championship contender each year. Those have shown to come in a variety of ways or draft positions. Not just "tanking" or blowing it up. Guys like Brady, Mahomes, Hurts, Jackson, or even last years super bowl runner up Purdy didn't come from getting a top pick in the first round. Even getting Brees was a free agent pick up, so in the mean time, I'm fine with continuing to kick the can down the road and being in contention to make the playoffs. Even if Derek Carr isn't the long term solution at QB.

Apparently the Bears didn't watch the Rams in Green Bay this year.

Outside of him helping the players learn the reads/terminology he won't even get ahead of Bagent. His connection to Waldron is the only thing that even makes him even a camp body.

Think of him like an assistant coach that you NEVER have to worry about someone poaching. lol

So now that BB isn't the GM, what excuse does NE have for sitting on their cap space?

Onwenu $19M, Dugger $13.8M, Henry $9M, Bourne $6.5M, Gibson $3.25M, Okorafor $4M, Brissett $8M, Takitaki $3M, Watts $3M, Hooper $3M, Jennings $4M, Uche $3M

They certainly haven’t been big spenders, but they’ve been spending money. Depth chart’s definitely being filled out, it’s just they haven’t landed any big time starters to this point. They did just lose out on Ridley for $24M AAV. It’s an interesting criticism though, because had they landed Ridley for a similar price, they’d be getting laughed at for overpaying.

Eh if you have a rookie QB it's fine to overpay a bit for the supporting cast.

Doesn’t appear to be the consensus in the Calvin Ridley thread, but oh well.
