this is good for the news the raiders

Which is why I want to know for sure what the medication is, given that Jimmy had a prescription. I'm not saying there's a conspiracy, but for transparency's sake it'd be better to know it's Adderall for sure than leave any doubt it's a case of inconsistent paperwork.

And if I was a player on a terrible contract, I'd be buying all my own supplements and when a trainer hands me a water bottle on the sideline I'm swapping with the 1st round pick.

Are the Raiders a landing spot for Russ?

Unless they trade up (not advised), don't love their spot for a QB in the draft.

Not sure what interest Cousins would have going there. They aren't going to trade for Fields, I'd assume.

I think Russ could be in play, especially with the negligible salary cap hit that would be involved, with Denver footing the bill for essentially his whole contract.

Trading up seems unlikely, but there has been some talk about it from the Raiders beat guys that they're going to try. I'm not convinced the price we'd have to pay will be worth the risk, though.

My understanding is that the NFL doesn't publish what drug is detected, just pass/fail. Players tend to say Adderall or tainted supplement regardless of what they get busted for. I won't be surprised at all if they say Adderall, but I have no idea why a 10 year veteran wouldn't know that prescription would need to be approved by the NFL. Same for my original idea of opioids too, i spose.

I'm leaning back towards him loving to party.

If it's Viagra that's one thing, but it's not an opiate. No one is getting a prescription for an opiate without a valid use that would be exempt from a drug test.

I think that kind of applies across the board. I don't think he's getting any prescription drugs without an exemption.

Now that I'm thinking about it, most party drugs also tend to leave your system really quickly... 2 or 3 days. I dunno! This is fun.

You're combining a 2 step process.

The first step is getting his doctor to diagnose him with a condition that requires a prescription medication. The second step is to file paperwork to exempt him from the drug testing requirements against that medication with the league or PA rep or whoever the CBA tells him to contact. Jimmy did step 1, but not step 2. The fact that a doctor wrote him a prescription for it means it's not a party drug or an opiate because they can't prescribe party drugs period and every use for an opiate would be covered under an exemption. It's not like the NFL is going to make players sit in post surgical pain because they'd pee hot for morphine.

I think the misunderstanding here is that you're taking the prescription medication at face value while I think it's probably an excuse. He's a 10 year veteran and should absolutely know that he'd need an exemption for Adderall, and because the NFL cannot publish the results of a drug test beyond pass/fail Adderall and tainted supplements have become the go-to excuse for failing a test.

Again, totally speculative. If I were a journalist I'd have more hesitation to speculate.

That is based on Schefter's reporting at the front of the thread.

That's a nice chunk of change back, and that's on top of the ample cap we already have before restructuring/moving Renfrow and others.

That could very well be Josh Jacobs' salary.

That's pretty convenient for the Raiders.  lol.

I feel like someone out there between the Belichick and Shanahan coaching trees will want him for familiarity.

Yeah.  I'd imagine with the breadth of those trees, there ends up being someone who still thinks he's worth bringing in as a backup.  This PED stuff hanging over him complicates it a little bit, but i doubt it's a big deal for what he'd be intended to provide to any remotely sane organization.

doctors can prescribe party drugs

you can get ketamine or cannabinoids scripts

having the NFL agree that those are permitted, during football season is another matter

Always wonder how random testing is

I'm pretty shocked he didn't win on appeal.   There was clearly no performance that could have been enhanced last season.

At the very least, he should have asked for his $ back.

Jimmy's career will now settle into Andy Dalton year by year backup QB territory provided he has interest in still playing (not so sure he does, tbh....football really doesn't seem like a priority for him).

$148 in career earnings.  Not sure collecting $5M per year QB 2 money is really needed.

Id move on to other aspects of life
