kramxel
An interesting thread discussing the implications of the rule change, as I was theorizing before.
Forge
There were only like 2 surprise onside kicks last year. I think the idea of it going away is far more harsh than it disappearing in terms of actual function
adamq
So is the gunner dead Edit- the twitter thread kramxel posted explains this. Likely teams will use bigger guys, rostering 4 TEs Edited March 26 by adamq

When Deebo got drafted, I initially thought he'd be an all-pro returner for them.

They started using him a bit there last year. If he's still on the roster to start the year, wouldn't surprise me if they use him in that role this year.
HoboRocket
Just now, Forge said: They started using him a bit there last year. If he's still on the roster to start the year, wouldn't surprise me if they use him in that role this year. Health notwithstanding, he'd be SO good in that role. Especially with this current ruleset.
PossibleCabbage
The XFL kickoff rule is great. The idea is to essentially turn a kickoff into a running play. Most of the strategy will probably be the kicker trying to make it difficult for the returner to cleanly field the ball, but beyond that it's just blocking and tackling. As for all the "why do they keep changing stuff" murmurs, I want to note that College Basketball didn't have the 3-point field goal before 1986.
HoboRocket
Side note with Ted Ginn: in his 14 seasons, he had 15,700 All Purpose yards. Over 14,000 of those yards came in his first 10 seasons.
Teen Girl Squad
I'm intrigued to see how this works. It looks weird but I'm sure that we'll all get used to it fairly quickly. It provides a lot more room for strategy.
