Three Round Mock Draft

Mr.UFO

Recommended Posts

This mock has five trades -- four in the first round, and one in the second round. The real drafts always have about twice that many in the opening round, but I don't want to clutter things up too much. Note the Cardinals with three Round 1 picks. (It turns out that teams pulling off the Round 1 "triple" happens in real life more often than I thought). The positions given are the projected positions the players will play for their NFL team (converting from OT to G, DT to 5-tech DE, OLB to ILB, etc.).

Jayden is good. Prefer Maye. I feel like 36 is early for Rosengarten with Paul, Morgan, and Kingsley still out there. I like Braswell more than most. I think he could do well with DQ. The third rounders seem good.

Rosengarten might actually be too low at 36. He's one of those guys who came out of nowhere and gets first round buzz. There's one in every draft (but I'm not sure about the track record of late buzz guys and if they often pan out).

This is a very... interesting... selection. DE is position I am probably most happy with on our roster. Maxx is an all-pro, Tyree is finally healthy (He wasn't 100% all of last year due to the foot injury) and started to look solid late in the year, and Koonce is one of the most underrated players in the NFL. He had 8 sacks, all in and after week 9(As soon as AP took over).

I think RT and CB are much larger needs, assuming we can't land one of the big QBs.

1st round pick in Turner is fine and acceptable although i much prefer Latu or Verse as those are my top 2 edge rushers.  Latu being #1 because he fits our scheme better.   Turner is very much a possiblity though he fits the scheme as well and has some solid upside with his athleticism.   That and im not worried about Latu's medicals and without that problem he is far and away #1 edge to me.

2nd round pick make really no sense to me im not sure what your thought process there was as our OG play is probably the strongest part of our entire offense outside of RB.  We have an All Pro #1 Rated OG in the league in Chris Lindstrom and a 1st round talent we moved up and snagged high in round 2 last year in Matthew Bergeron who played quite well honestly.     Mathews and Mcgary are fine although im not against a upgrade to Mcgary at RT in a year or 2 but we just paid him and he is a elite run play RT.   His biggest issue and nightmare was Brian Burns and that fool is out of the division now  Mcgary might actually become a elite RT now XD

3rd round pick in Sweat was absolutely FANTASTIC best pick of the draft imo and lord knows we need a true NT between Grady and Onyemata on our 3-4 front we don't have one as it sits.

So honestly change the OG in round 2 to a WR or CB  Maybe Coleman or Leggette for WR or Nubin for SS which could use a better player than richie grant as well.   Lassiter i would pass on there not a big fan of him for CB in our scheme.

Spencer is whatever i personally wouldn't take him we might as well have kept Ridder at that point imo lol.    Still didn't take a CB yet by this point and you have one of my favorite ones in the draft available there in Melton.   I would easily take him and his value and positional need over Spencer and not think twice about it.

So 2 scenarios 1 of ppl you picked but replaced with actual needs and players available.  and 2 what i would have done at each pick.

1.       Turner - Edge
2.      Legette - WR
3a -  Sweat - NT
3b - Spencer

Here is mine

1. Latu - Edge
2. Franklin, Wilson, Coleman, or Leggette - WR - i love all of them in round 2 at WR and would be fine with any.
3. Sweat - NT
4. Melton - CB

I keep depth charts of all the teams. When I did this mock and looked at Atlanta, I had Bergeron playing RT (his college position), and Jovaughn Gwyn at LG. I use the depth charts on each teams' website for the information. It's possible that very early in the season, Bergeron moved to guard and I didn't know about it. Or maybe somebody got injured and returned, and when I moved them from the Injured Reserve section and back to the lineup, I misplaced them (wrong position or wrong string). I don't usually update my charts until the playoffs (for the teams that make the playoffs). Also, it's often hard to know which offensive lineman are playing well because the talking heads never mention them. Anyway, that's my sob story for this issue.

I agree that Atlanta might go WR early (Round 1 or 2), considering that OC and McVay disciple Zac Robinson will probably play wall-to-wall three receiver sets. A slot guy will be important for them, and former Cardinal Rondale Moore won't excite anybody in Atlanta. If Ricky Pearsall (a projected full time slot WR) of Florida is still there at #43, it's something they might consider. As far as the Z spot, there's a reason why Darnell Mooney wasn't re-signed by the Bears. The Falcons might want to upgrade from him instead.

Jaguars going CB in the 1st with Arnold is...not my favorite, but whatever.  If they do it, i wouldn't be shocked.  Good DBs are nice to have.

But going ILB in the 2nd is just insane.  Jaguars have good starters there and a ton of other far bigger needs.

Circling back to WR in the 3rd is okay i guess, considering the disaster.  But rough head count gives me about half a dozen WRs i'd take over Baker plus a bunch who aren't even listed, that are missed on with this mock.  I'm not sure i could live with that.

Biggest one is just...if Keon Coleman is there at the 2nd round pick...i'm sprinting to the stage faster than the receiver himself to make that pick.  That's just stupid obvious need+want+value convergence.  Especially if they do go DB in the 1st.

If Jaguars walked away with Arnold + Coleman, i'd shut my trap about first round DB value permanently.

Christian Haynes wouldn't start for the Falcons for at least 3 years. He'd be behind Bergeron and Lindstrom. Paul or Legette both make more sense if you're going BPA for what the Falcons actually could use at equal grades.

Sweat is great. But WR, CB, S, etc would all be better than Rattler. Dude is a 4th or 5th round talent.

You definitely didn't update your depth chart after training camp. Also Bergeron played LT in college. He slid to LG on the first day of training camp for his first practice with the team. He never played tackle in Atlanta. Gwyn is a center who played RG in college and who will play some LG this year as a reserve. IF you want a depth chart for the Falcons, here's one I put on twitter.

As you can see, Bergeron plays LG. He literally played every snap at LG last year. It never hurts to do a little more research.

Yeah, if anything, this is about as high as he'll go.  Maybe he'd get first round buzz in a weak class, but he's got a lot of problems as a prospect.  Also, this tackle class is absolutely stacked, so it's hard for me to imagine any scenario that has him going higher than the guys this mock has in front of him.

Frankly, it's hard to imagine him going in front of Morgan or Suimataia, but that's not way out there.

Love the Titans.  I haven't really in depth scouted Pearsall, but a receiver at 38 makes all the sense in the world.  I'd take Coleman all day, but that's me, and maybe I'd prefer Pearsall to him anyway if I had a chance to do a deep dive into Pearsall's tape.  I'd also be tempted by Kris Jenkins.

I can get behind a WR like Thomasd in the first, even though I think they go RT or DT.  Picking up Fisher in the third obviously addresses that need.

Where I don't agree is the second round.  We have Logan Wilson and Pratt signed for 4 and 2 more seasons, so Wilson has no clear path to the field.  We also have a glaring need at NT, a smaller one at 3t, and either could be addressed there with pick #49.

Ah ok that makes more sense now on the OG issue.  But yeah Bergeron was 100% brought in for us to be our LG of the future as we didn't really have one last year and needed to draft one and they thought he was a good RT prospect but a all pro potential OG prospect.  Storm Norton is the guy who took over RT when Mcgary got injured last year and we brought him back and im he sorta outplayed mcgary in pass pro by a good bit at times so RT is pretty solid as well now it seems.

Yeah im with you on WR being a descent sized need and i trust and like my CB2 and 3 more than my WR 2 and 3 right now.  So WR is higher on the list for me to pickup and this draft has some good ones in round 2 and 3.    If i didn't think sweat falls to round 3 i would take him round 2 to secure him.  But since he fell to round 3 here thats a massive win imo.     As said  a legit WR 2 in round 2 a guy who can play outside and inside is what i would go with because Pitts also slides into the slot alot for mismatches.  Mooney and Moore can both play slot a bit as well.  So i would grab a more outside legit 2 potential #1 type guy that can also play some slot before a pure slot guy.

Still would take Melton at CB in round 3 though and then take a QB like Milton maybe later for depth and upside.
