2024 Vikings 53-Man "Final" Roster

"The Minnesota Vikings' cuts yielded two big takeaways. The first is that they are clearly happy with the growth of second-year quarterback Jaren Hall.

With rookie J.J. McCarthy set to miss the entire 2024 campaign following knee surgery, the Vikings are likely to lean on offseason addition Sam Darnold.

While Darnold may have opened the season as the starter anyway, McCarthy's absence increases the need for quarterback depth.

Following a strong preseason, Hall earned a spot over Matt Corral—a 2022 third-round pick of the Panthers who also spent time with the New England Patriots and the UFL's Birmingham Stallions.

Hall, a 2023 sixth-round pick, isn't Minnesota's quarterback of the future, but he's done enough to be in the team's plan for now."

It would be great if Hall keeps developing and can be JJ's backup next season.

I'd think they'd want a veteran around for mentoring and a soundboard.

Maybe. But that's kind of what KOC and McCown are.

Coaches, aka managers, and players aka coworkers, ime at other jobs, play such different roles in teaching and mentoring.... But you could be right.

Here's what I've seen regarding the PS:

12 of 17 spots filled.

RB: M. Gaskin
WR: L. Jackson, T. Thomas, J. Jones
TE: R. Tonyan
OL: T. Robinson
DL: J. Williams
EDGE: Richter, Carter II
DB: McCain, N. Wright, J. Williams

Gotta be more OL coming in, I'd think.

It's a little much to say that Hall "earned" a spot over Corral. Corral was never a threat.

Maybe the only thing I can find disappointing is that we weren't able to trade Roy/Nwangwu/Cine and get any draft capital that we could get. With Cine, teams always give 1st rounders 2nd and 3rd chances it seems.

I assume they tried to trade them. Judging by waiver claims, there weren't teams interested in those contracts even without needing to give up compensation. It might not even be just about the contract. Teams weren't even willing to use a spot on the 53-man roster after waivers were cleared and the players weren't bound by the terms of the previous contract.

It just seems honestly teams are not signing other guys as often as they used to, years past it seemed a lot of guys signed after they were cut by another team.  I guess they have their own who know their systems and just stick with them.  Strange but awesome the Vikings could keep McCain, Carter, Tonyan, Ritcher, Lucky Jackson!  Not to mention Robinson as well, curious Risner is not on there but clearly he is crazy injured or will be long term obviously...

The expansion of the practice squads helped with a lot of that.

I guess there is one they missed, Lewis Cine signed to the Jets practice squad.  Curious if that means the Vikings have first pick on him to the practice squad and they did not want him?   Not a huge surprise he found another team, honestly Jay Ward would not have been signed by the Jets or to any other practice squad, he could have been hid on the practice squad much easier.

Good luck to Lewis though, is curious if the Vikings did not want him but clearly took McCain who is more experienced at safety over Cine which I guess was the original thought when training camp started.
