2024 Schedule. 17 games, or more...?

Recommended Posts

Because of the London game in Week 5, the Vikings will have the following week off. That is notable for various reasons.

Rookie quarterbacks are often inserted into the starting lineup after the bye week because they can work twice as long on the game plan and have more time to prepare. That is not the rule, but many teams choose that route. McCarthy’s first start could come in Week 7 versus the Lions.

Tight end T.J. Hockenson might miss time early in the year. If that is the case and he is out for the first half of the season, he would play one extra game compared to a late bye week. It buys him some more time if his recovery is delayed.

SportsIllustrated.com Assigns Vikings an Absolutely Rotten W-L Record

That’s the word from SI.com this week, the popular website claims Minnesota will finish this season with a nauseating 3-14 record, by far the club’s worst since 2013. The schedule was released on Wednesday, and their three wins for the Vikings were pegged against the Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Green Bay Packers. And then that was it. Fourteen losses otherwise.

Other websites have forecasted Minnesota for six, seven, and eight wins this season. SI.com’s three-win bombshell is a first-of-its-kind revelation. Most sportsbooks set the purple team’s win total at 6.5 wins or 7.5 wins.

I can't say that I would be completely shocked if the team finished the year with just 3 wins. There are plenty warnings one can find to suggest the Vikings may have a down year, but I couldn't make a prediction that they will finish the year with that record. If that happens, they'll have performed significantly below expectations. If the coaches are even decent at player development, the Vikings should easily surpass three wins. I believe coaches Kevin O'Connell and Brian Flores are better than average at developing players.

I wouldn't be shocked if they had a down year certainly, but the US Bank roof would have to cave in to get only 3 wins.

Exactly.

They won 3 games with Dobbs and Mullens at QB. They’ll win more than 3.

Time flies by and Week 1 will be here before we know it.  I'm not expecting much from the Vikes this year, but I ALWAYS like pleasant surprises.

If the offense gets Risner back, I could see any QB being above average as long as the running game works.   It was bad last year, if not a disaster.   Then, ya gotta look at the WR group and smile, right?  JJ needs to be paid, and if he is, he's worth . . . 4 wins?

Will the ST cost us 2 or 3 games?  I have my Pepto ready.

On to my favorite part, Defense.   A base 3-4 needs a true NT, and the Vikes didn't really address that.  But, Flores runs the base D maybe 20% of the game?   I feel like that's a great way to camouflage that deficiency.   I think we may see a lot of small sets in the front 7 with a high rate of rotation to keep kegs fresh.   If they shut down the opponents run game, getting to the QB will be exciting . . . Not saying they'll break the team record for sacks, but it should be eye opening.   If they finish with 60 sacks, we win 10.  If they finish with 40 sacks, we lose 11 or 12.

If we go 6-0 in the division, I'd be amazed.
