it was lovely.

so on the down side, we had the Darnold INT and the Jones fumble, probably both costing us points. any others?

I don’t know if it cost us any points, but punt that Turner should have downed at the two but rolled into the end zone was a pretty bad play.

I’d still like to see O’Connell shelve his trick plays. We saw him try and get cute a few times last year, and they always seemed to slow the team’s momentum.

With how the Vikings’ offense was going, the attempted halfback pass for Chandler was just unnecessary, and frankly, dumb. Chandler got shoved out of bounds and it stopped the clock. They should have just called a normal run play. Not only was the run game working well, but it would have kept the clock running, and they could have run the clock under 3 minutes before kicking their final field goal.

Also, moving forward, id like to see fewer pitches in the run game. At least to Jones. Jones is a good back, but he just doesn’t have the necessary speed to beat defenders to the edge. Especially against a defense as fast as the 49ers.

I felt like it took a bit too long for the Vikings to make that adjustment.

Jets do not look as good as originally thought, especially Aaron Rodgers.  Detroit just lost even though Hutchinson had 4.5 sacks in the game, Rams do not look as good as last year with the increased expectations and no Puka or solid OL with injuries and suspensions, and of course Love being hurt for Green Bay.

Vikings look solid and really should have beat the 49ers by much more than that final score.  Still take one game at a time and honestly this entire season was supposed to be a wash because of the new QB and developing a rookie QB (who is now out for the year).  Either way clearly getting solid players in free agency makes up for having one QB who is not worth $45 mil a year, outstanding signings and great use of money.

Just hope Jefferson can stay healthy, but even if not the Vikings are a team and not just one player regardless of if that is a QB or if that is the highest paid WR in the NFL.

Since 2020 here is how the Vikings started

2023 0-2 (winless preseason)
2022 1-1 blowout in each game (winless preseason)
2021 0-2 (winless preseason)
2020 0-2 (no preseason)

That is absolutely nuts to say but for the Vikings to start the season, preseason included, 2020 there was no preseason, but basically there was 1 win in the first two games and the preseason.  In 2023 and 2020 they had three losses in a row by the way to start the year.  Totally crazy so cannot take for granted this 2-0 start which is historic of late, have not started 2-0 since 2016.

1-16 in that four year span including preseason first two games of the year, absolutely nuts!

@757-NINER:

"Unacceptable performance.

Don't expect us to win every game but today was a ****-show on both sides of the ball AND STs.

If not for Warner, we probably get blown out.

We looked unprepared and just uninterested for a majority of the game.

Hard to watch us look that inept.

Gotta give Flores & O'Connell their due tho.

They definitely have Shanny's number."

I just want to say it...the 49ers just don't match up well against the Vikings.

Van Ginkel popped in the highlights last week with a sack and an athletic interception for a touchdown against the Giants, and he was a menace on the edge all day against the 49ers.

In the first half, Van Ginkel nearly jumped a Purdy pass at the line of scrimmage near the goal line the same way he did to Giants QB Daniel Jones. He also tipped Purdy's pass on a key fourth down inside the 5-yard line in the first half, and then tipped and nearly picked a pass at the line late in the fourth quarter.

Darnold's 97 yard TD pass to Justin Jefferson was the Vikings' longest touchdown and offensive play of any kind since Gus Frerotte hit Bernard Berrian for a 99-yard score in 2008. It's only the franchise's third play of at least 90 yards since play-by-play tracking data began in 1994. Chester Taylor's 95-yard run in 2006 is the other.
