Yes I am saying that.

His stats speak for themselves.  They are terrible over his career. His leg is mediocre and his power is a myth. He isn’t the worst FGK. Add in the KOs and it’s pretty easy to see what he is as a kicker

NFL.com shows it clearly. He’s brutal. From 07-10 he never broke 20 TBs in a season. They moved it up 5 yards and he still can’t get over 50 %. You trying to say the short kick was something over this years is what is moronic  sorry to name call you can’t seem to debate without it. Last season there was talk of letting the punter take on some KO duty likely to push mason.

We rarely employed the short kick last year  our coverage was not good enough. Crosby was tasked with kicking it deep and just isn’t very good at it and never has been according to his profile I included it for you.

Kick off moved up prior to 11 go figure  he has the leg power of Thor’s little sister.

Why do you assume that the goal is touchbacks?

Why would you assume the goal is not to get a TB. At what point in the last 10 years do you believe we have been good enough on teams to kick short and stuff the return short of the 25. The facts and tape are clear in respect to my own thoughts on the subject.

Its only been the last couple years that teams have been kicking short. The tape is clear Mason rarely kicks to the goal line or just past. That is not GB our coverage units suck and have sucked. With that said the footage does not lie. Mason has never and will never be a great KO guy.

Koo has bounced around, has only been on one active roster. Yet, he's "Koo" to go get but this other guy, nah...

Maybe Ficken is the same as Koo.  I am kind of a sucker for Koo's story and I saw all of his misses, a lot of which were blocks and BS which probably clouds my judgement.

Basically any new kicker is on an extremely short leash, and ficken/Koo both failed their first auditions.  Only difference is Ficken got a 2nd shot and failed his 2nd too.  But I agree that they are essentially the same.

If anyone is still saying that crosby is  a "fine" or "reliable" player, here's a method to evaluate him:

Field goal kicking is measured differently. Measuring kickers by field goal percentage is a bit absurd, as it assumes that all field goals are of equal difficulty. In our metric, each field goal is compared to the average number of points scored on all field goal attempts from that distance over the past 15 years. The value of a field goal increases as distance from the goal line increases.

Kickoffs, punts, and field goals are then adjusted based on weather and altitude. It will surprise no one to learn that it is easier to kick the ball in Denver or a dome than it is to kick the ball in Buffalo in December. Because we do not yet have enough data to tailor our adjustments specifically to each stadium, each one is assigned to one of four categories: Cold, Warm, Dome, and Denver. There is also an additional adjustment dropping the value of field goals in Florida (because the warm temperatures allow the ball to carry better) and raising the value of punts in San Francisco (because of those infamous winds).

Over his career, (2007-2018), Crosby ranks 23rd  out of 32 teams in the NFL as compared to other teams (not individual players, their overall kicking performance including any changes in players).  Over more recent samples, he ranks equally below average.

So, for those of you stumping against cutting Crosby, give us a reason you want to keep a below average player who is paid a high salary.  Give us an analysis of how many crappy holders he had over his career.  Give me something.  Otherwise I'll continue to believe that he's reliably bad.

For the love of God, it’s still stupid to cut him until there is somebody to replace him.  How do you not get that concept?

I would totally agree with you on not cutting him until we have someone in house. We should be looking hard for competition though and if a newcomer looks better i take the rookie year over Mason.

It's crazy how no kicker had more than 20 touchbacks between 2006 and 2011.

I'm literally loling about it right now.

@PACKRULE, here you go: I hope you can see the point I'm making here.  Literally no kickers in the league kicked touchbacks at a high rate prior to 2011.  Why?  Because there were more returns.  Players only had to get to the 20 to get the same starting position.  The move up 5 yards was to reduce kickoffs.  The change to the 25 yard line was made to further touchbacks.

It's embarrassing for you that you think that's an indictment against Crosby's ability to kick a touchback.

There isn't a single kicker in the NFL incapable of kicking a touchback out of the endzone when he wants to.  If you think otherwise...

Seriously, they moved the kickoff marker up, and coaches were getting mad in preseason games that they weren't getting live return reps because the kickers thought it was so amusing to try and kick field goals off the tee.

AJ's primed for an even better 2019

I will never get tired of watching Jones juke people in the open field at full speed without losing a step. It's absurd how loose his hips are and how good his balance and body control is.
