Musing From Broncos Training Camp

Shakir Soto and Tyrique Jarrett have been bright spots on the DL.  I hear Kyle Peko may have re injured himself this week.  Gotta wonder if he get IR'd.  If so Jarrett has a big shot to make the squad.

On the WR front Raymond made a helluva catch on a throw behind him that led to the FG.  Taylor with a bad drop on a back shoulder throw.  Wonder if stuff like that decides their fate.

Not surprising. You could tell even from camp highlights that Sloter is pretty much a stiff. He is not worth rostering at this point but will be a good practice squad stash, see if there's anything there later.

Until next year when we find a new late round/UDFA to pimp.

What are you talking about? He played well.

Was hoping to see more from Henderson

Again the issue that arises when you play mostly against the 2nd and even 3rd string D.    It doesn't change his long term potential at all but like Sloter, gotta put the brakes on first year expectations.

Not against the Cards 1st (and 2nd string) D in the 1Q.   Really slow read progression and pocket awareness on all the sacks.  Stephenson was horrid on 2 of them but the criticism was more than fair.   His recovery came against the next wave of subs Ari put out there.  Reading the stat line for preseason is meaningless without context - take a look at the 2013-2016 preseason stat leaders and it shows why.   How you perform against the starters matters a lot more than shiny numbers against the subs or even 3rd stringers.

Sloter has some potential but it's long term. Against first string pass D he's not ready.   Not a knock at all for a rookie UDFA.   But it's the reality we face with him.

One other observation from last night - our ST play still wasn't there.   Got a punt blocked, and our coverage and blocking on returns was pretty lackluster.

Man, I hope Olivo has us ready to be a lot better in Week 1.   With our home games, winning on ST is a really big hidden part to winning the field position game, which only helps teams play against our strengths (pass rush and No Fly Zone).
