Really weird, not even any hints of injury here but I've never seen a guy go from Honus Wagner to an A-ball player this quickly.

He did get hit in the head during Lindor's slide, but didn't seem severe (especially not enough to cause this)

What a weird move. You've already eaten gobs of money you're not getting that value back from him even if the option vests. Just hold on to him don't give him away for nothing.

MLBTR mentions a vesting option at $22 million for 2019 if he reaches 400 PAs or something like that.  He's not performing well, and the Red Sox were going to make him ride the pine going forward.  May as well open up that bench spot for someone that could "contribute" as much as HanRam is right now, while getting experience for the future.

It's about the money - if it were purely a baseball decision, it would be Jackie Bradley Jr. going to Pawtucket. Hanley was well on his way to having that option vest, which the team clearly didn't want to happen. Rather than strategically sit him throughout the year, risk pissing off/mentally losing Hanley, they decided to let him go now. All I know is that Craig Kimbrel better be back next year (not that $22M alone accomplishes that) and/or they better work out some extensions this offseason with guys like Chris Sale, Mookie Betts, and Xander Bogaerts.
