1 year of KL > 2 years of DD for a variety of reasons. Talent improvement, major money off the books, sooner rebuild, etc.

I agree. On the business side it looks good. I just feel for Demar so much

ok just did. And still don't see what you are trying to say.

-The team they had showed repeatedly they didn't have what it takes it to win a championship
-DeRozan is a very good player, but he is being paid almost $30 million per year and he is a career 29% 3 point shooter (23% in the playoffs) and he is not a good defender and is known to lower his game consistently in the playoffs
-The Raptors got a great player in Leonard (probably the best two way player in the world) who, if they cannot convince him to re-sign, can now be a great bargaining chip to rebuild
- They didn't lose either of the prospects that they realllly wanted to keep in Siakam and Anunoby
-They have a good chance of winning the East this season, with LeBron leaving and upgrading from a playoff choker to a Finals MVP

The only negative for me is the fact that DeRozan was a fan favourite and was so loyal to the team and the city. But if Wayne Gretzky can get traded and Peyton Manning can get released, who the hell is DeMar DeRozan? This is coming from a huge fan of the guy who has watched him from day one...

And they get out of DeRozan's deal early even if Leonard leaves...with some damn good upcoming free agents (aka guys better than DeRozan)

No FA is going to sign with the Toronto lol and that was before they backstabbed one of the most well liked players in the NBA. This is to win next year and hope that they can convince Leonard to stay. If they don't make it to the finals and/or Leonard signs with the Raptors long term then this deal is a colossal failure.

That being said, I kinda like it.

Strongly disagree...

How exactly is it a failure if Leonard doesn't re-sign? Derozan is under contract for exactly one more season than Leonard. You think the Raptors were going to keep him if they fell short two more years? Like how many years do you keep going with the core? And Lowry in two years will likely no longer be an all star caliber PG. If Leonard leaves then you speed up the rebuilding process. Raptors had their shot last year with Derozan as their best player and they lost to the worst Cavs team of the last four years. Forget losing, they got f'n swept and completely blown out twice. The win is the Raptors got the deal done without giving up OG or Siakam.

Because you arrived at the same point as Derozan and lose out on a quality youngish center, and a draft pick and you don't hold onto the player you traded for. Add in the fact that now no player is gonna trust the organization. So with the trade they hurt the rebuilding process and didn't achieve anything.

And you do that for the opportunity to re-sign Leonard and have a legitimate shot at getting to the finals, something that likely wasn't going to happen with Derozan. Poetl is going to be solid but that's it. He's not going to turn into this stud 28+ minute type of player. Will always be productive in a limited role. It's okay losing someone like that. The Raptors are likely to win 55+ games so that pick is going to be a low 1st rounder. Not ideal to lose a 1st, but losing Leonard also puts you in the lottery a year earlier than having Derozan would. So you lose a late 1st, but likely gain a 10+ difference in a 1st round pick even if Kawhi loses. This is worth the risk. Definitely won't be a colossal failure either way.

No one is going to trust the Cavs because of The Letter

No one is going to trust the Clippers because they traded Griffin

No one is going to trust the Spurs because they turned on their franchise player

Blah blah blah
