Derek Carr on the field.

Jimmy Garrapolo if only looks mattered in the NFL.

Jimmy G is a good looking guy.   Unfortunately I'm almost old enough to be his grandmother.  ;)

Derek carr has had the most dropped balls in the NFL since 2014, per PFF. Last year we were 3rd in drops with 38.

Todd Downing's offense was a joke. Not qb friendly, no easy completions and lack of separation for receivers down the field. Crabtree notably regressed in this way and Seth Roberts was awful.

Yeah that back injury affected him but it was a freak thing getting kneed in the back by a 300 pound defensive lineman, just like the ankle. Derek's a tough dude, contrary to popular belief and he takes hits and will put his body on the line.

I have  confidence that Carr will be back to 2015/16 form before long.

The Raiders had 28 drops last year. Not 38. Atlanta led the NFL 30 drops. Matt Ryan still looked like a G though.

I think Carr just had a rough year. Sucks that some fans were turning on him by the end of the season. He did seem to really crumble when pressure gets in his face. Here is a mini article about actually that was recently published.

Who would you rather have?

The dude that came to a new team in the middle of the season, and led a group of scrubs to five straight wins after learning a new offense in two weeks time. All while looking like a bawse on the field with his play. B|

He was hit on a lot of throws he was pressured on, hence his passer rating deteriorating significantly. "pressure " as a metric needs to be redefined IMO

Washington Post seems to rate dropped passes differently.

Do you have a stat for quarterback hits in total this past season?

So, what are the chances Carr's ankle injury had a more long lasting effect than we realized?  I mean in 2016 Carr looked like an MVP candidate.  Breaks his ankle towards the end of the season and in 2017 he regressed hard.  But he wasn't the only one. Marcus Mariota had a great 2016 (pro bowl alternate), broke his ankle towards the end of the season and in 2017, he regressed hard.  Coincidence?

I would say a lot of things entered into it.  Ankle injury lingering.  Broken back.  New offensive coordinator.  New contract and expectations.  Our line regressing.  Etc.

I'm not blaming any one thing on the poor play last year.  But I will say they probably all took a toll.

I'm more than ready to see how this year goes and how that last year was a fluke. ??

Anyone that can ball under those circumstances, sure. No one has ever really done it before.

You're vastly underestimating the system. I watched the games. They weren't scrubs. Not all world, but Shanny's offense is good.
