patriotsheatyan
Hypothetical The NFL passes a new rule that basically allows teams to institute practices when the first week of free agency starts, with normal work hours. So teams start practicing/workingout 8 hours a day 5 days a week in early March (or whenever preseason starts). How much better would the average player or team be? Would players be in better shape, more disciplined, more skilled, or have better chemistry? Would this favor the offenses, defenses, or neither on net? Would this do anything to improve the game? Would rookie development be faster? Would physically gifted players that go bust have better odds on planing out? Thoughts?
bucsfan333
That would be a lot more practice than teams have now. Injuries would be through the roof.
diamondbull424
This creates a net neutral situation, no one benefits more than another here. Players already train their bodies year round to a degree, having them practice year round would likely inhibit some of the strength and quickness gains they can make while not having to focus on football. Whats more players aren’t able to replenish their focus by being able to be with their families. Many of the greatest players of all time were driven by a purpose and were mentally replenished and loved to talk about the examples they were making for their kids. Eliminating that could destroy bonds and ruin motivation. The only players that would likely gain more from this scenario would be players that are so unfocused that they use the offseason for partying and “other activities”. It might help to rein them in some. Other than that, I see no positive benefit here. Overall the impact will likely be negative, but said negative impact will be dispersed equally across the league and thus the end result would be neutral gains/losses in terms of team and player development in comparison of themselves to their competition. Practices would be like an hour of field work per day. Truthfully I think even know we're far into the territory of diminishing returns with the complexity of modern schemes
JAF-N72EX
Are we upping the available roster spots to say....120 for each team?
Jakuvious
The average player would be worse, as preparation won't overcome ACL tears.

Jlowe22
It would be terrible. Players already train, diet, prepare their bodies nearly year round. It's necessary they do that, and benefits them more than practice would. Practice is only one part of the training required, and year round practice would do more harm than good. Some of them could probably spend a lot more time studying the game, and getting better mentally, but the majority of elite guys do this already, especially the QBs. Wyld Stallyns
We don’t need players to practice daily from March until January. We should see more OTAs, there are currently some after the draft and then in June. Right now players only real time off ~ Season end - March ~ Mid June - Mid July
