Since winning the MVP in 2015 Harper hasn’t finished top-20 in WAR once.

2016 - That was the year where he was battling something all year.  Clearly wasn't healthy, as he only had a .198 ISO and a .264 BABIP.

2017 - Only played 111 games, but still amassed 4.8 fWAR.  Extrapolate that over even 150 games and that's a 6.5 fWAR player and top 10 in the game. Over 7 fWAR if he plays the full 162.

2018 - The defensive metrics HATED him last year.  He's not a plus defender, but he's clearly better in the OF than the likes of Khris Davis or Rhys Hoskins.  BABIP was a bit lower for him as well, which bit into the offensive production.

The biggest issue with Harper has been the nagging little injuries.  He's only reached the 150 GP threshold 2 times in his 7 seasons, and the 140 GP threshold 3 times in those 7 seasons.

It's still a smart signing.

He played 111 games last year, that's pretty much all we'll need from him and even that's probably on the higher end. He was a 3WAR catcher last year, that's well beyond whatever we could reasonably expect. The Mets were 25th in catcher WAR last year.
