Definitely the guy I want if we go big at EDGE instead. Thomas is still my No. 1 target. You can have Landon Collins.

I'd pay him that in a heartbeat. As long as those 3-4 years are easy outs. I'd much rather throw 14-15m per at him for 2 years than have to pay 34 year old ET. Really depends on who you like in the draft. If Abrams/Gardner-Johnson are your top safeties, go get ET or Mathieu. If you prefer Adderley or Thompson, go get Collins. fattlipp
What about Weddle for like 5 mil, I know he's old, but he's timeless like Suggs. Suggs too bring them both in for a year, Ravens D is always good, they would bring leadership. Edited March 5, 2019 by fattlipp

I see G-J as a similar front end safety like Tyrann.

Yep... He's missed as much time the last two years as he's played and missed a lot of time three years ago, too. Add in now being on the wrong side of 30 and it's an easy pass on a big contract. Packerraymond
Personally think Adderley and Collins might be my preferred pairing. The Thomas signing is a 2 year bandaid. Collins would be a 4-5 year deal.
KingOfTheNorth
Giants officially told Collins he wont be tagged. Please, Gute! Make this happen! Been too long since the Packers had a safety named Collins.

I dont think we'll land him however - if - the Gints dont decide to tag him. Our track record hasnt been great in recent years. Personally - I think the position is pretty much "empty pantry" right now. Gotta make a run to the grocery store of we're gonna go hungry. PossibleCabbage
I'm legitimately fascinated by the FA safety market, since last year the market for safeties was really soft. Everybody except for Matthieu, Burnett, and Coleman signed for less than $4m per. Now the "not insinuating malfeasance" explanation would be that the NFL simply didn't value safeties very highly. However the "we are facing a pretty serious collusion charge which intersects with one of the FA safeties, so we will disguise our intentions by also not signing Vaccaro or Boston" interpretation is not wholly without merit. Since the collusion case is settled, they could go back to paying safeties highly in free agency, or they could continue to avoid doing it either because they were telling the truth the whole time or because they don't want to appear guilty. Leader
Ian Rapoport: The Giants have now informed S Landon Collins that he won’t be franchise tagged, putting a top player on the free agent market, sources say. So let the negotiations begin....................
PossibleCabbage
Like the FA crop at safety is probably the deepest of any position group. Something like the 5th and 6th best safeties in the FA group are guys like HHCD and Kenny Vaccaro. Whereas the 5th and 6th edge guys are like Preston Smith and Shane Ray. Leader
NY Post: Chasing a Super Bowl with a 38-year-old Eli Manning, who counts $23.2 million against the cap, and letting a 25-year-old co-captain and three-time Pro Bowl safety walk out the door for nothing in return on a defense already sorely lacking in playmakers, pulls the rug out from under Giants fans who were right to plead BETTER SAFETY THAN SORRY. We can debate whether a player who has been more box safety than interception machine is worth $11.15 million on the franchise tag, because most teams, especially the Giants, value a pass-rusher and cornerback more. We can’t debate whether it is bad business collecting assets during last October’s impromptu fire sale for “Snacks” Harrison and Eli Apple but allowing a more marketable talent to venture out freely into free agency without attempting to reach a belated deal with him. Because it sure is.
