Jesus they could put a down payment on a new stadium.

Yep. Indy is in a really good spot cap wise. Luck is healthy, Indy is past his big cap hits, and have put together back to back solid drafts. Future looks really bright for sure.

Better yet....

KD Drummond‏@KDDrummondNFL

Cowboys projected to have $54.4M in cap space in 2019

Some potential/likely cuts adds up to $15m .... TWill, Hurns, and Lee. Figure in re-working a contract or two, pretty easy to envision a scenario where Dallas has upwards of $75-80m.

No reason we can't re-sign the guys we want and bring in someone like Earl Thomas.

We need to front load some contracts with the space we have.

Re-sign DLaw and put a good chunk of the money upfront before Dak and Zekes extensions kick in.

There is some merit to it. While he's miles away from Quincy and a long ways away from being as awful as some make him out to be, I'm not exactly convinced he's worth $25-30m/yr either. There are some holes.

That’s what I’d expect as well. Those three are almost assuredly gone along with the obligatory restructuring of one or two current deals. So, it’ll mean that Cooper, D-Law, and Quincy get extensions, we likely sign Earl Thomas to a decent deal and sign a free agent TE on the cheap. I wouldn’t expect much more than that.

There’s plenty of merit to it. His deal isn’t as much about available cap space but what his actual worth is. The problem is that the league has gone away from focusing contracts on the value of the player and now only focuses on the “value” of the position. The QB position value is A LOT higher than what Quincy the player is worth. When you then look at it against the cap, it creates problems because he’s now been overpaid, and the cap prohibits us from paying everyone else what they’ve truly earned; thus causing us to lose them to free agency, making us worse off as a team in the long run.

If Joan and Steven are smart, they’re already taking to Quincy’s agent and telling him that they’re not going to pay top QB money for him because his play hasn’t warranted it. If his agent balks, Quincy gets the tag, and we draft a QB in 2020. Pure and simple.

Also think about the negative impact that Romo’s albatross deal had on the team. It prohibited us from doing just about anything in free agency and put us in salary cap purgatory because we had to restructure his deal almost every year. Quincy’s deal would be the equivalent of that. Do we really need to go through that experience again, knowing full-well what it cost? (Read: defensive talent)

Not sure what he deserves or what JJ SJ will give him, 15-20 million perhaps with potential increases through incentives. But I said it in the other thread, it's not like Dallas is in cap hell or anywhere near it.

NOT disagreeing with anything you said (other than the boorishly redundant "Quincy" jabs) Good negotiation needs to be done. Dak still has lots to prove to be paid like he or his agent may want. Which is why I mention a smaller but incentive based contract for Dak. If Dak plays at an All-Pro level, then let him tear up the contract. If not, give him a modest contract and let him earn more.
