Kind of weird to think about, but if a qb could just be consistently average, I think theyd be considered a top 10 QB lol.

Outside of the elites who are good week in and week out, its just the inconsistency that kills all other qbs.

250 yards, with 1 or 2 tds a game and 0-1 int.. week in and week out;
4250 yards, 25 tds 8 ints.

Not to mention the random outlier games where some random guy tosses 4 TDs and 350+ yards.

Needless to say, the definition of "elite" seems to be overly subjective these days and is often dependent on who someone likes or doesn't like.

Trevor Lawrence is considered elite with a stat line of 3,004 yards 14 tds, 7 ints.

Jared Goff is considered a bridge QB by many, yet is rocking a 3288, 20-8 stat line and has a better record.

The truth is Goff is arguably a better QB than Gold Jacket, but the narrative around him is that he's not great. Meanwhile, Gold Jacket was tabbed as the savior of a franchise and while the results have been mid, that narrative is keeping his name value inflated.

I think it’s important when judging QBs to not get too wrapped up in 1 big year stat line, 1 down year, etc.

Like you said, there's a few that do things with clockwork consistency, but they're honestly much rarer than people often admit. Josh Allen is considered a top 5 QB amd his stat line justifies it....but is there a less consistent QB out there right now that gets that sort of hype?

As it currently stands, there's Patrick Mahomes and the field in that regard.

Who considers Lawrence elite? He is 12-5 in his last 17 games but his numbers haven't been great.

Goff is showing his ceiling as the season winds down though, they'll always have a ceiling with him and they will likely flame out early in the postseason. I mean they almost lost to Carr and allowed him to score his first TD in like a month and  a half against them.

Nothing wrong with going all in on QB if you have the right guy. Issue with Bryce Young is, he has no elite traits. He's undersized with average mobility and an average arm. He had no business going #1 overall. He's not the type player to elevate those around him. Stroud on the other hand was on a similarly bad team.

The Panthers have further made him a mess keeping him as the starter. His footwork which was great at 'Bama is a mess now. He's pressing and really reeling. Panthers mismanaged that entire situation.

Don’t remember hearing all that before the draft.

Most people, which makes no sense.

David Carr does have a point with Jalen Hurts. He's not a good pocket player. He's been banged up, slowing his mobility. Without that, he's not a good drop back passer who can make reads and throw consistently.

This is why Mahomes is the best in business. He is exceptional in the pocket, but can make plays outside it when he needs to. He doesn't rely on it, it's just a tool. The "elite" tag get thrown around on Hurts, but he is a bit system dependent.

They lost to arguably the best team in football last week that essentially had a mini bye coming off of a Thanksgiving game.

Hurts just put up 10 total TD in the three weeks prior to the 49ers game in wins against the Bills, Chiefs, and Cowboys...
