2019 NBA Finals - (1) Golden State Warriors vs (2) Toronto Raptors (TOR leads 3-2)

Keep in mind TOR was pushed to the brink, with the buzzer-beater in game 7 by Kawhi vs. PHI.

Then down 2-0, doors blown out game 2, and had to pull a 2-OT win to get game 3 vs. MIL.   2 10+ point 2H deficits in Game 5-6 to take that.

And with Klay back and en fuego....no matter.   There's zero doubt KD missing out has a huge impact - but as it's been covered, this is no different than prior GS wins where key injuries to the top player happened on their side.

Still, the 4th one is the hardest to get.   It's just that after winning game 1, the scenario where you'd think a 3-1 TOR lead could happen was taking game 2.   After blowing a huge opp in game 2, the odds of a 2-game road sweep seemed slim (although game 3 was the must-win they delivered on once KD & Klay missed it).  This game, Klay was the best player on the court for the Dubs.   It's mystifying that they didn't go to him more in the 1H, that was when GS could have run the Raps off the court.  We've seen Klay drop 50+ on these kind of nights.   Once Nurse adjusted with the zone +1, though, the D really clamped down, and that got the transition O working.

Either way, though, full credit to the Raps.   Kawhi has been the constant, but in Game 1, it was Siakam/Vanvleet, Game 3 it was Lowry/Green, and tonight it was Ibaka as the inside 1-man show (and Siakam stellar in perimeter D).    Until the 4th W is in the bag, nothing's conceded, but you have this feeling of destiny with TOR's playoff run.   Even Vanvleet's injury was a best-case scenario - no concussion.

Monday is going to be...insane.

If Kawhi leaves (I don't think he will if they win) then the Raps finna be the greatest one hit wonder of all time. Mid to high seed playoff team, champs, right back to mid seed playoff team.

And oof the Bucks blew what might end up being their best chance to win a title between all the guys' cheap contracts and the Warriors being banged up.

Them and the Mavs will be the only teams to win nobody expected.

Wish this happened more in the NBA.

Ok boys, now that we got all the pleasantries out of the way...lets get down to the serious business.

We can't let the maple syrup lumber jacks have something America has owned since the beginning. Mr. President, bring out the tariffs, put up the walls, send in the SEALS, anything we need to not let this happen. Make American Basketball Great again!!!!

TBF, the Raps exposed the major weakness in MIL's game that GS could have replicated, even without KD.   Not saying GS would have easily won, but it's a better matchup for GS to defend 1 guy's game.   TOR's bench has come alive in the MIL series and Finals after being AWOL the entire ORL (not needed) and PHI series (which nearly cost them).

TBH, the team that should have the biggest regret this year was PHI.   They were *that* close from advancing, and they blew TOR out of the building in game 2.  I get MIL was *that* close to winning game 3, and that would have been likely the series, but PHI's game was such a harder matchup for TOR, and likely MIL/GSW.   These long playoffs really expose teams that aren't great in halfcourt O/D as much as they rely on 1 guy or key mismatches that allow free look after free look or easy baskets from high tempo.

If TOR wins it, the legacy won't be just Kawhi - it will be their stifling D.   Elite speed on the wings to avoid free looks for the Splash Bros, and a great rotation and interior D to avoid easy buckets with Ibaka suddenly finding the fountain of youth the last 2 games on D.  Wow.

If history has shown us anything, it's that Kevin Durant likes a good challenge.

well if history shows us anything is, this offseason, KD might try to sign with the Raptors

Look at the free throw disparity. I don't want to hear anything about hometown calls. KD better man up and get on the court for Game 5.

EDIT: Didn't end up being as bad as I thought. But it was bad earlier in the game.

The non-calls were tilted towards GS, though, albeit not in a huge, game-changing way.    And that's fine TBH, that's the advantage of being at home.     It's just a ridiculous notion that TOR was somehow being favored by the refs this series.   TOR's earned all 3 W's vs. GS, and frankly, they blew a great chance to win Game 2.    Yes, no KD matters a ton, not pretending otherwise.  But it's exactly the same issue with 2 of the 3 GS titles being helped in huge ways by facing teams losing top (or top 2 players).

TOR's dominance with no KD (especially with Klay returning and playing great tonight) should seal the deal on the Q for KD's legacy IMO.  But if TOR wins and furthermore does it Game 5...man, they've earned it.   Their road in the East IMO was as hard with PHI/MIL as GS's with HOU/POR, if not harder.

Still, the 4th game isn't in the bag...and we've seen this before.   The thing that's nuts is that under pressure the last 2 games, the Raps have looked like the more composed team.  THAT is something you just don't see, especially against the Dubs on the road.    That's what feels so different.

Can't wait for Game 5.

But the actual calls tilted the other way. Toronto won the game. It wasn't that close. But I'm not trying to hear that GS benefited from the refs. I've been quite shocked with how bad it's been (both ways) during this series. There's no consistency with letting them play vs. calling it tight.

KD is KD. He's arguably the best player in the NBA. By having to pay him, GS can't afford any real help off the bench. So yeah, it's not surprising that losing him really hurts against a team as talented as Toronto. If Green and Iggy aren't hitting threes, Klay and Steph are the only ones really spacing the floor. It'll be interesting to see if Toronto can pull it out. KD has three days to step up and get right.
