That doesn’t mean they wouldn’t have continued to thrive here.

Yes, but while they may have been better here than in Tampa/San Francisco, they likely will have still declined. Father Time almost always wins.

Letting Scherff walk when we have absolutely no viable replacement on the roster is stupid. We’ve spent 7 years+ trying to fix LG so locking down your RG position when you have a rookie QB position seems vital. At least in my opinion. Like I said, I can see the argument based on his position for letting him walk but I truly believe it ends up bad.

And this is my biggest concern.

With the new CBS coming up,sign him now. It'll be a deal when contracts sky rocket.  That and this is always the case, people go crazy talking about overpaying ,yet it's the way of the market.  This will never change. You will always have to pay for good/great players. There is no overpaying, just people saying guys are overpaid.

Why is the CBA guaranteed to skyrocket?

The housing market was supposed to keep on going up, up, up ... until it didn't.

There really shouldn’t be any argument about resigning Scherrf. Guys, real soon there will be a rookie QB behind this offensive line and one that can’t run. Having 2 top of the market contracts in Trent and Scherrf up front is a pretty damn smart way to spend the money. Especially considering Moses deal isn’t a killer and the other 2 are on rookie deals, unless Flowers wins the job (cough). There are a lot of teams that would kill to have 2 all pro caliber lineman protecting their young quarterback. It all starts up front and both sides of the ball, if healthy, have the potential to dominate.

Brandon is worth just as much as Martin IMO. He's a 2 time Pro Bowl player and a Huge asset to the Oline. Not resigning him would leave both Guard spots on the line needing to be filled. Sending Haskins out there without a good Oline isn't smart. Wes hasn't secured the LG spot and no one has seen what Flowers can there. Scherff has to be resigned. 6 years 90 million, 45 million guaranteed. Scherff is the Man of the future for the Oline and you have to get a young guy in the next 2 drafts who can replace Trent while still on a rookie contract.

Obviously we don't want to overpay him but he should be paid like one of the top guards in the league because he is.  I would rather overpay him a bit than try to replace the position.

We should consider how many years it has been since we have been able to put someone adequate at left guard and how much that has hurt the oline.  It isn't easy to find a marquee player like this.  There seems to be only about one Scherff level guard on the market every year.   We have one, just keep him.

How can we forget the game we played refusing to overpay cousins.  We ended up overpaying him anyways, and then he walked and we paid some old dude to a measly 15% less to replace him but sacrificed a 3rd round pick, a starting corner and got below average play out of the old guy.  The grass isn't greener.  They need to stop messing around and wrap up this contract before pre-season.

Peterson got 1000 yards behind the Oline despite the injuries. Getting Guice on the field this year will be a huge addition as well. The team has the talent to dominate up front on both sides when healthy and Scherff plays a huge part of that on the Oline. He is worth the money if you actually want to win, know how to build a team, and understand how this will positively effect the future of your Franchise QB and RB.

They won't trade him, but that's a bad look for the Silverback. He's undoubtedly still one of the best tackles in the game but he's still making big money, and hasn't made it through a year at 100% in years.

He's trying to get as much guaranteed money before his body goes. And he knows its going.
