Week 1: Falcons (0-0) at VIKINGS (0-0)

Last year, the Falcons were uncharacteristically bad rushing the ball and stopping the run. So, who will have the most yards rushing this game?

For perspective, the Cardinals were still playing in St. Louis and Marv Levy had yet to be hired by the Bills (even though it was Jim Kelly that threw the 10 passes), but would be hired about 6 weeks later (from the street, which is awfully unusual).

First half breakdown (26 plays)
RBs: Cook 19, Mattison 5, Abdullah 2
WRs: Thielen 26, Diggs 18, Beebe 6, Johnson 1
FB/TEs: Rudolph 26, Smith 13, Ham 11, Dozier 2, Dillon 1

Not going to add a full second half breakdown. But here are the final offensive snap counts (out of 53)

RBs: Cook 36, Mattison 12, Abdullah 4, Boone 2
WRs: Thielen 47, Diggs 32, Beebe 14, Johnson 7
FB/TEs: Rudolph 53, Smith 26, Ham 22, Dillon 7, Dozier 3

I'd like to see Mattison get a few more snaps in Week 2.  He looked very good in his limited action and actually wasn't much of a drop off from Cook.  It also wouldn't hurt to keep Cook as fresh as possible for later in the season.

Anyone find it odd that despite having a dominant performance against what may still be a playoff contender in the NFC, the Vikings are getting no recognition this week? The Chiefs, Patriots, Browns and Cowboys are all getting way more attention for their performances when half of those were within expectations.

This was a game with a 3/4 point spread that the Vikings completely blew the doors off.

I enjoy being under the radar, but also... what?

That's just the way we like it.  It's all about flashy players and flashy teams.  The Vikings don't really have either.

With chatter that people would release Abdullah to make room on the roster, does this along with the special teams snap count cause anyone else to think that Boone may be let go before Abdullah? When it comes to guys in the lower end of the depth chart special teams ability is often more valuable than their ability to backup the position. And now we see Abdullah also being used at the position more often.

Neither Abdullah or Boone are going anywhere.  It's far more likely to be either Ma'atafa, Watts or Fields.

No way Fields is cut if Hughes and Alexander aren’t healthy enough to be active.

I think it comes down to Boone, Abdullah or one of the extra DTs (probably Ma’atafa).
