I know there was a story once that one ex member of his staff had said once he started writing books, he started phoning it on on the radio show. And he realized he could just throw stupid hot take junk out and it would work as well, if not better than anything else. Sound theory, but I feel like was going downhill before that. He had Kristine Leahy who outgrew the show quite quickly then moved onto Joy who was flat out miserable on Undisputed in every sense of the term. I've twice tipped a barber an extra 5 dollars to stop mid haircut and change the channel away from Colin Cowherd on FS1.
