Atkins has more consistency, but Ngata did a lot more for his team.

That's not true in the slightest. Based on what, exactly?

Ngata's also a better athlete all around.

What does that have to do with who was better between 2010-2020?

He played both football and rugby.

Not even close. Aaron Donald modeled his game after Geno. He wanted to be Geno..

Ngata was a major contributor to Baltimore's dominant defense in 2012 when they won the Super Bowl .

He closed up the middle of the line and was frequently double teamed.

Atkins is a good player on a terrible team, and that's why he didn't have nearly the same impact.

I would consider that a feat worthy of being on the all-decade team when you consider the guy's age.

He was still playing at an elite level.

He managed to get 11 sacks at age 37.

That's not easy to do.

That's not how all-decade teams work.

Why wouldn't Peppers still be considered when he actually played within the decade?

He didn't have to play for the entire decade.

Khalil Mack didn't play the entire decade either and he definitely deserves to be on the all-decade team.

Who said he can't be considered?

The point is age is irrelevant, that was what your post was about.

Age is definitely relevant depending on the position.

In today's league, it's not really a big deal for a QB to play into his 40s.

They're so protected nowadays, nobody's allowed to hit them.  Receivers are now starting to receive similar treatment.

But, if you're playing on the line and you're still making big plays either at 40 or right below 40, that needs to be recognized.

There's a lot of lineman/linebackers/defensive ends who can't keep playing with that kind of stamina as they age.

Julius Peppers is one of those rare exceptions.  James Harrison was too, and that's why I mentioned him earlier in the thread.

He's another guy that played until he was 39 years old.

The all-decade team is about who played best over the decade. If you played worse whether because of age or whatever you don't get on. That has always been what the team is about. So no it doesn't need to be and shouldn't be recognized at least as relevant for all decade team consideration.

The problem is that you have a lot of guys that basically overlapped between both decades.

Not just Peppers, but guys like Adrian Peterson, Frank Gore, Larry Fitzgerald, etc.

Because these guys have been playing for so long, they are capable of stealing the spotlight from other players who might have only strictly played in the current decade.
