Ive been getting stuck on the difference between SW canon and legends.

Is canon now considered what Disney+ puts out and Legends is SW Episodes 1-6, The Clone Wars and all the books and comics that were put out before Disney purchased Lucasfilm?

Not quite.

All the theatrical movies, the Clone Wars TV show, and everything produced since Disney bought LucasFilm is canon.

The books, video games, comics, etc. from before the Disney merger is Legends.

Hopefully that sticks, thanks.

So if i see a book or comic that doesnt have the gold legends banner at the top that means it was put out after the Disney purchase?

Anything with the gold legends banner is from before the Disney purchase?

It could be from before the Disney purchase. There's a ton of material for what they called the expanded universe at the time that's been rebranded to legends.

A lot of Legends material may have been de-canonized but Disney is still using them for their new projects.  The Han Solo film culled a myriad of material from the Legends lore. https://www.theverge.com/2018/5/31/17408544/solo-star-wars-story-expanded-universe-ac-crispin-novels

And the Kylo Ren is a mash up of Jacen Solo and Darth Revan; Han & Leia's son falls to the dark side; idolized his grandfather; and kills a family member to prove his allegiance to the dark side. And Ben & Rey starting off as enemies then falling in love with each other, as well as forming a Force Bond linking their minds together was taken from the Darth Revan & Bastilla storyline. They're using the EU's ideas and the concepts are the same but the new story is putting it's own spin on it. Transplanting and combining some together. https://screenrant.com/star-wars-9-darth-revan-kylo-ren-redemption/

They haven't completely done away with the old books, comics, videos games etc but are trying to mine what they think will be good and not be tied down to any existing lore.

Brainstorming Session:

How do we accept the sequel trilogy?

1. The force ****ed luck on a late night bender and disorder, stupidity and a lack of common sense hit the galaxy, effecting characters and history and everything else.

2. What we saw in the sequel trilogy was a little bit like a galactic game of telephone and the details were embellished, mistranslated and not actually true. Rey wasn't a Mary Sue, but since she was a hero, she's just portrayed that way in the historical account because so few people want to acknowledge her faults. The casino subplot never actually happened and it was just thrown in there based on a totally unrelated thing that happened to some luxury resort around the same time as the war. Some details were true, but it's mostly bad history.

3. Get some editing software and edit TFA, TLJ, TROS into a single movie to bridge the gap. Would probably edit out all evidence of Kylo being Han and Leia's son. Most of TLJ would be edited out completely. Luke's entire subplot of being grumpy and despondent would probably be deleted not because I don't think it fit his character, but because the one thing that didn't fit was Luke's ability to pass up a fight. The best thing about TLJ was his BAMF force hologram appearance. Poe Dameron wouldn't exist. John Boyega's character probably suffers extreme injury in TFA and doesn't come back until the end of the film.

4., wait for shows and expanded media to make it seem way better and coherent… coupled with time to build what nostalgia there can be and learn to accept it like most pieces of mainline Star Wars content.
