animaltested
Most movies/tv shows with ancient battles are trash, especially if related to Dark Age or Medieval Europe; Rome or Greece. The armies used shields & Spears, and marched in formation for a REASON. Not as a buildup to a glorified 1v1 dance off.

Mostly because a large group of people just pushing and stabbing isn't all that cinematic. Holding formation was life and death though, and the vast majority of casualties were when one side broke formation and retreated. The English long bow was a game changer though and why Edward III was able to run roughshod over the French nobility.

I do think its a bit of laziness on the part of choreographers and cinematographers. The intimacy of the tactics could really showcase the brutality and dramatics. Much more than the overdone "Break Ranks and charge into each other and devolve into intermixed 1v1 dickslapping" most movies choose to use. I think a movie show casing an extended battle in Roman Manipular System would be incredibly cinematic and thrilling. We got a bit of it at the start of the Rome TV show. But nothing beyond that one scene. Edited June 22, 2020 by animaltested

The Last Kingdom on Netflix does a great job with this

Django almost got as bad, but up until the last 45 minutes, it’s a much better film. The endings are my biggest problem with both. In Inglorious, the whole killing Hitler thing really throws off my suspension of disbelief. It’s just such a well known historical event, it’s like someone pauses the movie, reminds you that it’s a movie, and none of this is real, then pushes play. In Django, the shootout is cartoony as hell, and then there’s like 45 more minutes of movie. You could have cut 30 of it and made a better movie. Don’t put the climax an hour before the movie ends. That’s too much falling action. This is the exact reason why The Dark Knight is one of the most overrated movies of the last 20 years. Yeah, I said it. This is the thread for it so I said it. Also, fun fact: the Spanish title of The Dark Knight was El Caballero de la Noche, or The Night Knight. Which makes me laugh.

There was an exhaustingly rushed (yet somehow simultaneously feeling drawn-out...so that’s impressive, i guess?), poorly-done, 45/50 mins of two-face centric falling action after the climax of TDK when the Joker was caught and it ruined the movie (along with the complete lack of chemistry between the Bale-Gyllenhall-Eckhart “love triangle”)...you know it to be true Haha. And that’s funny cause that’s me every time i watch that movie once the ferry scene ends...i’m going night knight Edited June 22, 2020 by Ray Reed

There's less than 10 minutes of non-credits movie left after the Joker is caught.

Then either A.) That final 10 minutes felt like the most drawn out 10 minutes in movie history or B.) I’m remembering one of the film’s like 3 other faux climaxes in the place of the Joker getting caught...Gyllenhall getting blown up, the joker/two face hospital scene, Dent’s rampage, etc... Point remains the same, though. That movie just went on and on and on and on with its climactic scenes and by the end it’s just exhausting and the viewing fatigue was real (in a bad way) IMO
THE DUKE
Sacha Baron Cohen is 10x the dramatic actor than a comedic one. His comedy is straight up trash.
Fresh Prince
TDK became overrated to me when it got crowned the best superhero film ever, to the point where some don’t even think there’s a close second. I think is for sure was the GOAT at the time. And then Marvel just started pumping out their masterpieces. I still think TDK is the best standalone superhero movie ever. But Endgame and Infinity War are overall more enjoyable.
THE DUKE
If you search the old forums, I said back when The Dark Knight was released that Batman Begins was the superior movie, even with Ledger having the best individual performance in the trilogy. I still believe this today. I was also one of the few excited at the announcement of Ledger as The Joker. The backlash that casting got is so hilarious in hindsight.

animaltested
I got one ; people who dislike modern music are LAZY at best, troglodytes at worst. If you rely on broad appeal mass marketed radio stations run by giant conglomerates; you are going to be disappointed. Its really not that much effort to get your finger on the pulse of what ever genres you are interested in. I spend 30 minutes on Friday skimming Reddit, Pitchfork, My local Indie Radio Stations website, and NPR for weekly releases. Select a few albums that sound interesting, and I have the album on my phone within three clicks. I also periodically check in with a few YouTube reviewers for further albums that slipped through the cracks. The sheer breadth of artistic exploration of music has never been BIGGER than it is now. The diversity of minds crafting music has never been more vast. And the access to music has NEVER been easier. I mean come on dudes, within 4 clicks you can access the entire musical catalog of some rando making Post-Glitch Post-Punk House NeoDisco music in their bedroom 30 minutes outside Yerevan, Armenia.
