MacKinnon is sure making his own case.. 76 points now while missing 8 games, leading the league at 1.36 PPG.  He'll win it if the Avs make the playoffs.

Plus, 10 GWG. The missed games will hurt him though.

Honestly, as much as I love what Hall is doing this year, I don't think he even finishes in the final three. I don't think that you can leave Kucherov out, and MacKinnon has been more impressive overall than Hall in that regard. Plus you still have Stamkos, Malkin (who has been on a tear since jan 1). I think McDavid is probably out given Edmonton's record, but Giroux has to be considered as well.

Is there a chance the Senators would actually move out of Ottawa?

It’s not likely but yes, there’s a chance.

It’s  ownership related. The fans have simply had enough of Melnyk and they’re staying away.

Since he purchased the team he has used it to fund other ventures, never investing the teams revenue and worth back into the team.

Alfie was more than a Senator. He was the cities ombudsman, promoter etc. He was revered by Sens fans. He signed a contract that was team friendly with the understanding his last contract would make up for it. Melnyk stiffed him and Alfie left for Detroit. During his time in Detroit he continued all his community responsibilities (they were many) not wanting to let his fans down.

When Alfie retired the Sens extended an olive branch and Alfie returned in a management position. Well, it took less than two years for Melnyk to run him off again. This time it was over team direction, player retention etc.

Spezza, it was about money and respect. His brother is my daughters neighbour and there was never anyone happier to escape.

Hemsky left during the Spezza saga.

Turris, another fan favourite. He anonymously had deep charitable roots in the community. The only reason I know how deep his efforts ran is because he was one of my wife’s customers.

The Turris trade seems to have been the last straw for EK. Shortly after the trade he announced in free agency he was going to get the best deal possible. Then the trade rumours started. There’s no way Melnyk would pay market for him.

so the fans are terribly alienated. Season tickets aren’t cheap and Ottawa has a host of entertainment options for a city it’s size. I was a season ticket holder for many years in Edmonton but gave them up after the third Stanley Cup. It became to much for one form of entertainment. When we moved to Ottawa our feelings didn’t change. Historically we go to see Edmonton, Boston, occasionally Philly and Vancouver. This year we haven’t attended a game. It’s just not worth it.

A few years back Melnyk was going to die without a kidney transplant. They couldn’t find a match so a public appeal was made to find a donor. Response was overwhelming! His life was saved. Now at every opportunity he insults the fans. His last insult resulted in him hiring an American public relations firm. He just wrote a public apology claiming how great the fans are. To little, way to late.

I could talk about the casino controversy from years back or other issues but the bottom line is Melnyk has sucked 100’s of millions out of the Senators including multiple refinancing which I understand the NHL investigated. His love of Ottawa soured after he didn’t get the casino operation and everything has been sliding since.

Publicly he says he would never sell or move the team. That doesn’t mean much if he’s forced to because of debt obligations etc.

Its complex with many moving pieces. Part of this is the new arena process. Two bids were selected for final review with Melnyk group winning. Well, the other group was two Quebec billionaires one of which is Guy Laliberte who founded Cirque De Soliel. When interviewed they seemed confidant that if they won the bid (they didn’t) the Sens would play in their arena.

So fans don’t like Melnyk and he doesn’t seem to like the fans. He won’t pay the cash required to keep top players because it appears money is required in other operations. It’s a downward spiral and waiting in the wings is a live entertainment genius and his partner waiting to step in.

If something were to happen short term I think Laliberte would buy the team and move them to Quebec.

So we shall see.

The Devils are in the first wild-card spot because of Taylor Hall. He has 30 goals and 42 assists in 61 games. That's a 31-point (!!!) lead on the Devils' second-leading scorer Nico Hischier. Hall is in the midst of two streaks: 18 straight games with at least a point and 25 straight (nonconsecutive) appearances with a point, becoming just the eighth player in 30 years to achieve that feat. Since Feb. 18, Hall has been in on over 68 percent of the Devils' goals.

He has accomplished all of this without the linemates and supporting casts of the other candidates. He has accomplished this with Cory Schneider limited to 37 games this season due to injury.

If we were casting a vote today, the Hart Trophy would have to go to Taylor Hall.

starting to get some love

I've been thinking for a while that Hall's point streak was going to end on a night where the offense scores like 5-6 goals. Seemed weirdly appropriate. On our way there tonight with three in the first against MTL and no points for Hall.

So much for that...Hall should get the helper on goal 4 lol

Still can't believe NJ didn't have to give up more to get Hall in the first place.

Neither can any of us Oiler fans.

Whats crazy is the Oilers number one need is scoring wingers. At the moment they needed D but they had a handful of guys in development that were close. Only two wingers in development.

the lack of vision on this team amazes me.

I’m still angry that Edmonton traded him. Mr consistency and does it all. His only knock is a lack of speed. He’s exactly the type of player every team needs.

We scored 6 goals yesterday and he was right in front of the net for 3 or 4 of them, I can't remember, including one goal. Dude is huge in front there. The only guy we had in that role was Boyle, so this is a nice bonus to the team. We need to get the offense right still, but he's actually been a better addition thus far than the splashier Grabner trade (though granted, it's been 4 games lol)

At least you still got Larsson...look at what he did to the Bruins with Seguin.
