For example, with Coombs and Johnson, I love OSU DB and DL. With Saban, I love Alabama interior DL, LB, and S. With Clemson, it’s hard to go wrong with a quarterback (Lawrence and Watson) or wide receiver. I also generally believe in Bama and OSU OL, LSU defensive players, Georgia RB, Iowa/Wisconsin OL, Iowa and Stanford TE, etc. LSU produces Tarzan running backs that play like Jane. Fournette, D Guise.

You’re right, they don’t draft guys specifically because of the name of their helmet. They draft a guy based on the name on the helmet of the guy across from him. How do you perform against the best of the best?
candyman93
I’m more interested in your guys thoughts on the free agency. Free Agency- Keep: Sheldon Richardson, Jamie Gillan, Adrian Clayborn, OBJ Let walk: BJ Goodson, Larry Ogunjobi, Karl Joseph, Andrew Sendejo, Kevin Johnson Resign: Olivier Vernon, Rashard Higgins, Terrance Mitchell Sign: Matt Milano from Buffalo Release: Cody Parkey, David Njoku Draft- 1. Nick Bolton, LB, Missouri: Him and Milano fix our LB core immediately. 2. Eric Stokes, CB, Georgia: Gives us a more dependable 2nd CB. 3. Richard Lecounte, S, Georgia: Gives us depth behind Ronnie Harrison. 3. Israel Mukuamu, CB, South Carolina: Adds more depth to the secondary. 4. Hamsah Nasirildeen, S, Florida State: Another massive body for the secondary. 4. Dimitri Moore, LB, Vanderbilt: Depth at LB. 5. Cade York, K, LSU: Best kicker in college football. 6. Pookah Williams, RB, Kansas: Will provide depth and challenge D’ernest. 7. Big Kat Bryant, DE, Auburn: Depth at DE.

If we are going to draft a seventh round guy who probably won’t make the team anyways, I want this guy. I know nothing about him except his name now. LETSGOBROWNIES
I can’t see any reason to move on from Goodson, he’s been our best linebacker all season and it’s not particularly close. I get he’s not a great starter, but I can’t see how we improve the LBers that much that there isn’t a role for him next year.

I can’t believe that I’m saying this, but Takitaki is turning into a solid rotational guy as well. We still need a true MLB/WLB, but if we are able to acquire that guy and another via the draft and/or free agency, you have a decent core of 4 guys. I’d take Goodson back for a year. He’s been at least an average starter.

Takitaki is a 2 down guy and Phillips is 100% unproven. I don’t want to rely on those two as starters. Our starters should be depth and our depth should be selling insurance. Our starters should be depth and our depth should be selling insurance. Phillips isn’t going anywhere, nor should he, but I think he’s terrible. He’s stiff an unathletic. I like Takitaki as your 2 down Sam, Goodson as your 2 down Mike, and then we need a hybrid WLB/SS guy and/or a 3 down off ball freak, plus another + guy on obvious passing and matchup situations. Throw in another S even if Delpit comes back with Harrison for depth and a 3 safety look, and another CB for opposite Ward and nickel situations, and I’m optimistic about where this team could be in a year defensively. Another edge guy is a must too with Vernon likely gone due to money unfortunately.

To be fair, we all said the same thing about Takitaki last year. I don’t think it’s crazy to assume a decent progression year one to year two with better back end talent, a second year in the system and hopefully a regular training camp and preseason. This is why you don’t depend on rookies.
