imagine him with Mack... championship

DE - Derek Burgess

DT - Richard Seymour

DT - Tommy Kelly

DE - Khalil Mack

Well, if the Raiders had let me pick in the draft or used my Big Board we'd now be looking at a DL of:

DE - TJ Watt

NT - Vita Vea

DT - Aaron Donald

DE - Montez Sweat

But the rest of the team would be trash 😁😁 I also wanted to draft JaMarcus Russell so there is that too 😬

Glad you're honest.  Definitely a scout for defense but I wouldn't allow you to waste your time evaluating the QB position.  If there was one player I still keep saying I would've drafted, it was Chase Winovich.  8 sacks in about 17 games played.  I was worried Vita Vea was too heavy to stay healthy (Kind of right so far maybe???).  I still would've taken Khalil Mack over Aaron Donald in that draft.  Never saw Donald becoming what he is today.  I just did not think TJ Watt was going to be as good as he is.  I honestly just assumed there would only be one good Watt in the NFL and I was wrong.  I wanted Sweat too but would've probably make the mistake to draft him at 4.  I never wanted Josh Allen because I never felt that he fit our scheme.  I just enjoy being a couch GM.  I didn't even want Jacobs because I felt his 40 was too slow and wasn't really impressed with his tape.  I'm glad we have him but his overall YPC this season is crap.  Plus I think Gruden ran him into the ground pretty quickly this season.  Glad Booker is taking some carries off his hands to keep him rested.  Glad we have Booker too because he has some real speed for a RB.  Done rambling.  Good post.

Honest Q.. is Irving a DE or a pass rushing DT in our scheme?

Can he play both?  Move inside on third? How's it going to play out?

He's around 6'7" and played around 280 I think last going off so in our scheme I see him as a Calais Campbell type player who can play base DE but is not a bendy edge rusher type, he tends to win with first step and bull rush, stunting inside from end or from inside in a Nickel formation . Personally, I'd think he'd start off as a pass rushing DT or pass rush specialist with some versatility to play outside. As he hasn't played for a couple years I'd probably try and keep things simple for him and use him as a rotational pass rusher inside. Use his length and strength and quickness against guards. Tell him to just pin his ears back and kill the QB!

The thing is, after so long out we don't really know as fans how close to the 2017/2018 player he is, maybe he's a tad slower and a bit heavier or he could have slimmed down so I guess the we'll have to wait and see him in action before having an educated idea of where he fits best. If he's anything close to his best, he could be a genuine game changer for us though 😀

I do something similar to this every draft.... I track who I would have drafted at the time of the pick (I have to accept all trades that were made).... and it’s shocking how much better I’ve done, and I’m sure nearly everyone here would do well im not special.

the one “catch” to these revisionary draft things is we’d certainly be drafting much later every year had we drafted better players.

It is impossible to piece together an accurate timeline but I have seen the majority of posters doing better over the years in the early rounds but the pros tend to do better in the mid and later rounds.  Also there have been players who we took early but wanted to wait till later to see if they lasted.  I would have loved to wait until the 2nd to draft Karl Joseph or at least trade back into the early 2nd.  No telling if it would have happened or if we could get other teams to make trades with us.  That is why I have started doing the Me vs Mayock threads the past two years.  It is the best way I can think of to honestly track our drafting abilities.
