Who cares which player they throw the ball to? The only thing I care about is where and when they’re throwing the ball.

Does it really make any difference if it’s a WR screen or a checkdown to a RB after running off the man coverage with 4 verts? It’s still a quick short throw with little chunk potential, totally dependent on your player making multiple guys miss.

Haskins had a very small yards to the sticks number. Allen’s was even smaller. Regardless of the QB, this is clearly an offense built around the concept of quick short throws and total dependence on YAC. It’s more boring when Smith does it, because he doesn’t mix in the occasional failed downfield throws like the other guys, but it’s not really any less effective.

It doesn’t change the fact that arguing Alex Smith doesn’t have a history of checking the ball down is ridiculous.
