If we get Stoops, we need to bring in a young hot-shot OC to be a Coach-In-Waiting. Fisch is not any of those things. You never know. We offer a lot more than Nebraska. Obviously, we can't offer him one thing they can, but that might not be enough. Fair enough. Now that you mention it, I agree about Fisch. I think Fisch is a better choice if (for some reason) we retain Mac. For Stoops, yes, we'd probably need to hire a younger guy like Spavital (probably be my #1 choice as a coach-in-waiting), Cumbie or even Graham Harrell. 10 minutes ago, jrry32 said: Why? He has no connection to Notre Dame and was our DC here under Spurrier when we won a NC. If Stoops wants to coach again, I think Florida will be near the top of the list (if not #1). I'd be happy with that if (as I said before) he does what he did at OU with Lincoln Riley.(hires an up-and-coming OC to be his predecessor) One name that I think fits there is Sterlin Gilbert. Jake Spavital is another intriguing name. Wes Phillips is a name from the NFL that would be worth monitoring as an OC. This. I see no clear reason why Stoops would want ND over UF. IIRC, Stoops is still close with Spurrier and with him now in the UF athletic department, it only increases our chances. jrry32
Yep, all three are good options. I really like Sterlin Gilbert as well due to what he's been able to do the last few years. He went to Texas last year and revived their offense despite all their issues. They finished top 25 in yards per game despite having a true freshman QB (who is now on the bench). And this year, USF is one of the top offenses in the nation. He also coached Jimmy Garoppolo in college. I think he'd work wonders with Feleipe. It's also nice that he isn't a guy who abandons the run game. I think that's important in the SEC. Edited October 15, 2017 by jrry32
Texas_OutLaw7
I think Chip Kelly would kill it in Florida. His scheme with Florida Speed would be a modern version of the fun-and-gun. Someone who I think the players & fans would love would be Rex Ryan. Build him with the right offensive staff, and it could work. And yes, I understand both of them are very limited when it comes to recruiting. The staff would need to be built with that in mind.
Scalamania
Any substance to the rumors that Mac wants out and is tossing feelers out? Read it on a couple different sites but can't get on twitter right now due to work.

Forget this, I don’t need this aggravation, because these people don’t appreciate what I’ve done.’ It’s going to be interesting to see.” https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/florida-football/cbs-sports-insider-dennis-dodd-thinks-jim-mcelwain-leave-florida/
eggybucsfan31
If he were to get fired, sure, he'd be a good fit there. But nobody is going to leave Florida for Oregon State willingly.

Whether that's true or not remains to be seen but I don't recall any coach having so much smoke about being unhappy and wanting out as Mac currently has. Scalamania
Quote TAMPA, Fla. — Florida landed one of its top targets Friday with the addition of 4-star offensive tackle Richard Gouraige. The Under Armour All-American revealed his decision in an exclusive commitment video with SEC Country. He chose the Gators over Clemson. He doesn't like fully giving up control of the offense. 2 hours ago, Remixxxxxxx said: I've read a lot of stuff over the past few days that indicates he's not happy here and he is trying to get out. jrry32
Serious question, if he doesn't get show-caused, how would people feel about Hugh Freeze? I give zero effs about the escorts. The guy can do whatever he wants on his own time. I also don't care about the rumors about him paying players. We all know that UF players are being paid under the table. The thing for me is that he is an incredible recruiter, he won at Ole Miss (which is incredibly difficult to do), and he had surprising success against Bama. I know it won't happen because of the stink around him right now (same with Art Briles, whose stink is much worse), but he's a far better coach than McElwain. beekay414
Oh damn, I just shuddered at the thought of Chip Kelly at UF. Don't let that happen!

As much as we'd all love it, I don't think Kelly is interested. He just strikes me as a guy who prefers the West Coast and taking programs that aren't considered elite to the top. I think he's got the sort of ego where he doesn't want someone to be able to say, "Yea, he's doing great, but it's Florida." The popular rumor with him is UCLA. As I said earlier in the thread, I wouldn't be surprised if we hire Bob Stoops and a young, up-and-coming OC to be our Head Coach-in-waiting. But we'll see if they have the balls to fire McElwain.
