Locally, a lot has been made of the brutal stretch of the 2017 schedule in which the Minnesota Vikings are currently residing. The good news for the Vikings is that, based on the records of opponents they have remaining – Los Angeles and Detroit are in the past and they went 2-0 in those games – the Vikings are actually sitting about as good as could be hoped for in terms of the teams that are currently in the playoffs and the nearest competing team looking to get in the dance.

Of the six current playoff teams in the NFC, the only team with a lower winning percentage of its remaining opponents is Philadelphia. The Vikings have two extremely difficult games coming up against the Falcons and Panthers, but it’s no picnic for the rest of the current playoff teams and one of the two teams currently closest to knocking out one of the current six-pack of playoff teams.

The teams that are in are going to have to earn their stay there.

THE GANG OF SIX

Atlanta: upcoming opponents winning 67.3 percent (37-18) of their games. With the exception of Tampa Bay (4-7) in Week 15, the other four Falcons opponents all have records of 8-3 or better.

Carolina: 60.0 percent (33-22). The Panthers’ next two games will be at New Orleans (8-3) and vs. the Vikings (9-2). But, starting with the Vikings, the Panthers will play three straight games at home.

Los Angeles: 54.5 percent (30-25). The Rams will have to prove they can win on the road – where three of their next four are, including Seattle (7-4) and Tennessee (7-4), and their only home game in that stretch is against Philadelphia (10-1).

New Orleans: 54.5 percent (30-25). The Saints won’t have a lack of familiarity with their final five games. Four of them are division games and two are against Atlanta (7-4).

Minnesota: 50.9 percent (28-27). We all know the Vikings’ closing schedule – get through Atlanta and Carolina and it gets much more favorable from there.

Philadelphia: 49.1 percent (27-28). The Eagles will play three games on the road, including their next two – at Seattle (7-4) and Los Angeles (8-3). After that, it gets easier to hold their playoff bye-week status with the Giants, Raiders and Cowboy – the last two at home.

Just playing around with playoff machine and realized a New Orleans win (at Atlanta), Los Angeles win (vs Philadelphia), and Minnesota loss (at Carolina) next week would result in a four-team tiebreaker at 10-3. As explained in the other thread, we'd have the 3 seed in this scenario.
