New Kicker needed

That’s a great question.  However, considering at one point that 1/4 of the league’s kickers came through our team, and many of them came in during the middle of the season, sometimes all the kicker needs is an opportunity.  And when you’ve got a guy who should have lost a game, and has missed two XPs in a game……give someone else a shot.

Again, I'm not against making Hopkins play for his job every week.

I just want to point out as bad as Hopkins has been, it could be worse.

Dan Bailey who used to kick for the Cowboys & Vikings is a free agent, as is Stephen Gostowski.

Dan Bailey is not the same kicker you think he is

  • First six years (age 23-28)
    • Field Goals
      • TOTAL = 171 for 191 (89.5%)
      • 0-19 = 4 for 4 (100%)
      • 20-29 = 39 for 40 (97.5%)
      • 30-39 = 56 for 58 (96.6%)
      • 40-49 = 48 for 54 (88.9%)
      • 50+ = 24 for 35 (68.6%)
    • XP
      • 250 for 250 (100%)
    • Kickoffs
      • 506, 31769 yards (62.8 ypk)
      • 264 touchbacks (52.2%)
  • Last four years (age 29-32)
    • Field Goals
      • TOTAL = 78 for 99 (78.8%)
      • 0-19 = 1 for 1 (100%)
      • 20-29 = 24 for 26 (92.3%)
      • 30-39 = 27 for 29 (93.1%)
      • 40-49 = 17 for 28 (60.7%)
      • 50+ = 9 for 15 (60%)
    • XP
      • 133 for 146 (91.1%)
    • Kickoffs
      • 295, 18134 yards (62.1 ypk)
      • 186 touchbacks (63.1%)

There's a reason he's on the street.

Stephen Gostkowski is also in the same boat. His last four years (age 33-36) have shown a decline from what you might expect

  • First eleven seasons (age 22-32, four all star seasons, two All Pros)
    • Field Goals
      • TOTAL = 303 for 348 (87.1%)
      • 0-19 = 3 for 3 (100%)
      • 20-29 = 92 for 96 (95.8%)
      • 30-39 = 106 for 118 (89.9%)
      • 40-49 = 83 for 115 (72.1%)
      • 50+ = 19 for 26 (73.1%)
    • XP
      • 548 for 552 = 99.3%
    • Kickoffs
      • 1025, 65680 yards (64.1 ypk)
      • 412 touchbacks (40.2%)
  • Last four years (age 33-36, no all-star seasons)
    • Field Goals
      • TOTAL = 89 for 106 (84.0%)
      • 0-19 = 0 attempts
      • 20-29 = 32 for 33 (97.0%)
      • 30-39 = 26 for 27 (96.3%)
      • 40-49 = 18 for 29 (62.1%)
      • 50+ = 13 for 17 (76.5%)
    • XP
      • 151 for 160 = 94.4%
    • Kickoffs
      • 304, 19040 yards (62.6 ypk)
      • 162 touchbacks (53.3%)

So, he might be better than Bailey, but he's not necessarily the same guy you think he is.

Dude, that was a lot of work for a kicker.

I’m 100% with you on all of this, but you know how most people like big names, so I thought it put it out there! 😂

And I get that. I just want people to go eyes wide open that the possible "solutions" may not be as good as they think or better than what they have right now.

It is a crime they didn't even bring in competition during camp.  Cause you are dead on, it is tough to find a kicker in October.
