Week 5: Jets vs Falcons in London

Are we ever going to have a 1st half where the offense doesn’t like middle school level. It’s getting ridiculous how bad we play call and operate for a whole half every week. That’s on the staff mostly….. but Wilson sure isn’t doing us any favors.

Defense had its worst game of the year today as well. Ryan had all day to throw. ATL had no weapons and still put up 27 on us. No sacks no INTs (embarrassing through 6 games).

On another note is how Moore has done nothing to date. People were talking him about ROY and he’s been relatively garbage through 6 games. Getting outplayed by everyone pretty much.

OL wasn’t all that bad today actually. Wasn’t a strength… but wasn’t a reason for our poor performance on offense. We have the play calling and players to blame mostly.

He really needs to be in the slot only. LePew needs to put Mims in the Z or X, and Moore in the slot to spell Crowder. Maybe use him in in 4 wide sets every now and then with Coles. IMHO, Davis, Mims, and Crowder give us the best chance to be marginally adequate.  Hell stop with the TE BS and use Cole/Moore as the Y.

This TE stuff is out of control. We run out 2 TEs a ton when we have no good ones. When we have 4-5 really good WRs. LaFleur has to go. We can be patient with guys that are 22 like Wilson and Moore. But not with an OC that has us hands down as the worst offense in the league with the offensive talent we have.

Start the talks on how how ridiculous it is that we want fire LaFleur Bc he’s best friends with Saleh.

That is going to be a talk JD would have to have with Saleh if it comes to that: Team first or friend first. Choose.

After last weeks second half, i thought we would come into todays game with a spark, once again I was wrong, we could not be any flatter than we were today. The offensive was horrible all day except for the third quarter TD drive. THE DEFENSIVE was worst than the offensive. With the Falcons without their one two punch at WR we still gave up 345 passing yards. We take one step forward and two steps backwards.

My only takeaway from the game is we have to have a O line that can open holes for Carter. Sure looks like Carter is the real deal.

Ah now that's what I call a team effort, with the whole team beautifully contributing to the L. It's an interesting strategy to come out every game and pretend that the first half is preseason. I mean, it's unconventional, and it's not working, but we seem to be attached to it.

We expect the offense to look like crap most of the time, but the defense giving up scoring drives on every single first half possession to a team with no WRs was pathetic. You could pretty much call game over early in the second quarter before Zach threw his INT, with us down 17-0. Sure they held the Falcons to 7 second half points, but after a couple of stops they wait until we're within 3 points, with all the momentum, and then give up an easy touchdown drive just to make sure we don't accidentally win. The killer third down penalties have got to stop too.

Sadly I'm expecting many more games like this than like last week. But we were never winning anything this year and we're going to need that high draft pick to inject more talent into this team.

Here's a goal for our next game: let's score a first half touchdown on offense.

In the interest of finding some positives out of a hot mess:

  • We only gave up two sacks. And we gave up one last week. Prior to that we were on record-setting pace
  • We converted 50% of our third downs
  • We won the turnover battle
  • We had fewer penalty yards (though more penalties) than the Falcons. This is mostly due to the big DPI
  • Coleman had a great KR. In fact, all of our special teams was pretty good

Pretty much everything else was bad, but still, there are positives. Though some are just "hey, we weren't that terrible at a thing!"

LaFleur is freaking garbage.  The first half play calling is always atrocious.

Zach is also holding himself back by missing the short throws.   Some of them are maddening.  He's relying too much on the big play and luck.  He missed Davis for a TD.  He was short on Moore, but at least it was PI.

We need TEs badly.

Moore has done NOTHING.

LaFleur is awful.

The referees and their BS roughing the passer calls may have done us in.  Those 3 points were huge and changed the momentum after we should have had a 3 and out.
