Is this the worst Browns regime?

I'm saying he's probably watching tape and preparing gameplans vs opponents as opposed to sitting around with a calculator and protractor trying to figure out some numbers on a spreadsheet.

Sure, the Browns are loaded in the early rounds of the draft and probably will continue to do so in the next few seasons. But how much of that is going to actually convert into wins?

We have guys doing that too, Andrew Berry and Ryan Grigson under him. We have a complete "traditional" scouting dept.

The calculator and protractor comments are humorous, but again, they aren't alone in doing this, every team in the league is using analytics to some degree.

What will it yield? Idk, we'll have to see.

They're intentionally tanking for high picks.  They get slammed for not taking Wentz or Watson, but those guys could have sucked with the supporting cast there is in Cleveland.  I think you have to give this Cleveland regime 5 years before you can evaluate them properly.

so if the browns pick a qb with their top pick as most of us think they should, does that mean that just wasted the 52nd pick from the year prior? for a team thats depending on picks to work out so heavily, that seems really foolish.

No, it means they took a lottery pick that didnt work out. Much like 70% of the draft picks teams make each year.

Cleveland is not tanking. Doing so would put them in serious trouble with the league and a LOT of people would be fired. So stop using that excuse.

And the whole "Wentz/Watson would have sucked" argument is dumb. Going with that logic, why should Cleveland draft a QB at all? Look at the Lions in the 2009 Draft. They're coming off an 0-16 season and have been the laughing stock of the league under Matt Millen. What did the new regime do? Grab their franchise quarterback and built around him. Stafford had his growing pains (literally) in his first couple of years, but he has since developed into one of the better quarterbacks.

All this "analytics" crap does is lead to overanalyzing.

not all draft picks are equal. a mid 2nd is way more valuable than a late 6th. If you wanna throw crap at a wall to see if it sticks, do it in the 6th. mid 2nd round picks should yield starters or consistent role players. You cant say this regime deserves more time because they have all these assets and then have them waste the assets thats buying them time. cleveland has so many holes on that team, tehy have to hit on their early picks.

As a GM? No.  But I'm assuming he was decent enough at something originally in order to get that GM job.

We'll see I suppose.

The truth is, Ryan Grigson served primarily as a bodyguard for Jimmy Irsay, lest a fed-up Colts fan assassinate him. That's why in all those photos he had that Undercover FBI/ Mafia Button-Man Look:

I hear a goatee makes a fella 30% tougher.

Can anyone confirm?

72% of 2nd round draft picks never see a 2nd contract by the team who drafted them. Your overrating draft picks like crazy. After the 1st round, its a crap shoot and nothing matters besides throwing it at a wall and hoping by a small chance one sticks.

how many of those guys go on to sign signifcant contracts elsewhere. youre not saying who busted or not, so its moot. And if draft picks are overrated, and i agree that they are to an extent, the browns should clean house immediately. The team is awful, has an almost overwhelming amount of holes and shockingly their biggest hope is that they hit on almost every early pick.

They have the youngest team in the NFL. Thats the result of cleaning house and getting rid of the mediocre veterans looking for their last payday and replacing them with 21 year old 2nd round draft picks. Cant have it both ways

Kizer was a waste the moment they picked him. This was worse case scenario for him and then being pressed to start on top of it. He wasn't that good in college and needed more time at ND to develop. Instead, he leaves for the draft, gets drafted too high and then to the absolute worst team in the league. If he turns out to be anything more then a back up who bounces around the league I'll be shocked.

This situation is very similar to when the panthers wasted a second round pick on Jimmy Clausen only to select Cam with the first pick the following year.
