Antarctica Katabatic Beasts

It is a time of turmoil in Antarctica. A championship level team with high expectations finds itself ownerless and staring at an uphill battle at 2-4. We're seeking for a big win against a strong playoff contender to right the ship and turn the page on this gloomy moment.

Offense:

Death Valley has a strong starting defensive front, but we've identified their defensive line depth as a weakness. To take advantage of this, we are going to utilize an uptempo, run heavy offense that seeks to stretch the field laterally.

Early in the game, we want to focus on (but not only run) pitches to Chase Edmonds, jet sweeps from our WRs, and screens to get the defense moving and thinking horizontally. To branch off of this once we've established offensive flow, we will utilize fake pitches that send Lamar Jackson on a bootleg in the opposite way, giving him plenty of opportunities to play hero ball and either run into open space or make a throw downfield. Much of this will be no huddle with limited substitutions to keep the aging Calais Campbell and Cameron Heyward worn out.

When the top starters for Death Valley are on the sideline catching their breaths, it will be time to bring in Mark Ingram and shift our focus to running it down their throats. We will continue to utilize a fast pace, no huddle offense to limit the ability to substitute. We will keep the field spread with our talented WRs in order to keep as many linebackers on the sideline as possible. Of course, we will utilize play action, especially bootlegs, to put the ball in Lamar's hands.

Our WRs will be focusing on deep routes. We believe this plays to their strengths as well as Lamar's, and it will keep the field as stretched as possible for our running game to flourish. As stated before, they will also be featured on some jet sweeps and screens.

Defense:

This week, our defense is going to be aggressive in stopping the run. We're going to crowd the line and key on the halfback in all non-passing situations. We're going to accomplish this by running a 4-3 under scheme similar to New Orleans last week.

We will feature a 6 man line against their base 2 TE offense. Harold Landry will play the pass rushing LEO role from a two-point stance. Roquan Smith will play as our SLB and his job will depend on which halfback Death Valley has on a particular play. With Henry in the game, we want Smith playing close to the line and containing the edge. Against Alvin Kamara however, we're going to have him take a few steps back and key on Kamara in both the running and passing game. Demario Davis and Nasir Adderley will play at the second level and be responsible for covering the tight ends on passing plays. Marshon Lattimore will shadow Calvin Ridley, and Joe Haden will cover Corey Davis. Anthony Harris will play in a Cover-1 with the occasional run blitz call from us.

We want to aggressively attack the halfback and keep them both contained at the line as much as possible. We understand that an aggressive attack such as ours may allow some quick scores in the passing game, but we accept those as it will help keep the Death Valley defense worn out.

In our nickel look, we will take Roquan Smith off the field in favor of Steven Nelson. In Dime, we will take Harold Landry off for Robert Alford. In obvious passing situations, we will maintain a stronger mix of man and zone, with Cover-3 as a base defense. Nasir Adderley will also play more traditional SS in these situations.

Death Valley Nightmare

Offensive Gameplan

The true beef of this defense in Antartica is their interior defensive front 7 (INT, MLB). While they can have some success from the OLB positions their secondary is a liability.  Haden, Lattimore, Nelson, and Fenton (who up until the last 2 weeks was only playing 18% of the snaps for KC) are the extent of their meaningful secondary depth so in this game we are going to take an approach we really haven't thus far.

Going into this game we want to spread out their defense and take advantage of their shallow & mediocee depth in the secondary.

We will run 5WR sets in this game, when we do we want to spread their secondary thin with Ridley, Davis, Kirk, Parker and Kamara as the 5th Receiver. We will work Reagor in as well when we aren't using Kamara.  When we are using  Kamara as a receiver,  he will play from the slot also, we will use him on angles, screens and Jet sweeps out of the slot.

We are also going to run 4 WR sets and 3 WR sets in this game. In 4 WR sets the WRs will be Ridley, Davis, Kirk, and Parker with Kirk in the slot. We will be utilizing the entire route tree but we will especially be testing Haden and Nelson deep.  With Anthony Harris out for this game, if they use Hamsah Nasirildeen we are going to be throwing deep on him often.

In the running game we are going to use a mix of single back and 2 RB formations, Derrick Henry is going to get the lions share of runs when in Singleback, when in 2 RB situations it'll be 50/50 to keep the defense honest on both the outside and inside runs. But also in these formations we will utilize the passing game with both RBs.

We will utlize Conklin on Mesh, quick out, and shallow Curl routes in short yardage situations when passing and in short yardage situations when running, King Henry will be our bulldozer.

**IF Parker is out for this game Reagor will move to WR4 and Byron Pringle will play a rotational 5th Receiver role.

Defensive Gameplan

At the very least we are expecting to see Antartica start the game with 5 WRs in their lineup. They have a running game, that might be the most positive thing I can say about it and in clear running situations(short yardage, heavy personnel) we will stack the box. We do know out of the gate, Saquon Barkley will not be available for this matchup. Which leaves Chase Edmonds, Mark Ingram, and Rojo, a combination of backs who have scored a total of 2 tds this season. Edmonds is capable of big games so as stated above we will not completely ignore the run game, but it isn't this offenses biggest threat outside of Lamar Jackson being a threat to run.

With the Lamar Jackson in this game their likely best course of action is to spread out our defense and use him in RPO and designed QB run situations. As such, Devin Bush will spy Jackson.

We want to flush Jackson up the middle where our more physical defenders are. To do this we are going to use our edge rushers, Burns, Crosby, and Paye to rush off the edge and crash the pocket, we want Jackson running into Hargrave, Bush, Collins, and Chinn, getting him to run into tighter spaces, we believe will allow us to limit his explosive runs.

We are asking our Ends, Heyward and Campbell to crash the the tackles to increase the odds of Lamar staying inside on his runs, especially with Hargrave able to take on more than one guy and it's a forgone conclusion that Antartica is going to have to use more than one guy to try to keep Heyward at bay which is going to allow our ILBs to engage Lamar should he come up the middle.

Our secondary is going to run mostly zone in this game to keep all eyes forward. As mentioned previously our expectation is that they'll attempt to spread us out and pass the majority of the game.

Slay - Diggs /#1 WR
Terence Mitchell - Chris Godwin / #2 WR
Tre Norwood - Slot Receiver
James Pierre - #4 WR
Jeremy Chinn - TE
Woods - Deep Zone

We will utlize some 3 Safety formations bringing on Javon Holland to help with deep coverage while allowing Chinn to play a Robber rrole.
When we are running formations in which there is only 1 LB on the field that LB will be Brian Burns.

Against the run, we want our defense gang tackling and limiting gains.

SHOULD they decide to start Tua over Lamar, defensively, we aren't changing a damn thing.

Goddamnit these are two really good game plans.

Reading Whickers plans I was thinking this is an upset special.

Then I scroll down to WW's, and he's countered everything seemingly.

At this point it's just a matter of execution, and I think attacking Antarctica through the air when they're expecting the usual run heavy game plan, and being a healthier squad gives them a win.

Favorite game to read so far though.
