What's the hold up with cutting him?

There's no reason to cut him at the current point in time. There's no pressing deadline. Even if they ultimately eat 6 million of his salary and acquire a fifth round pick for him, that's a huge win in comparison to just cutting him and ultimately paying him 17+ million to play for another team.

Unlikely that any team will give him more than the vet minimum because it makes no difference to Baker. Whether his new team offers him the vet minimum or 10M, Baker sees the same amount of money, the only difference is how much the Browns are on the hook for. Something like a no franchise tag clause would hold a ton more value to him

File this under: "Say anything for clicks" 😒

Do you think this was a situation where the team tried to suppress his stats so they could lower his value?

He just had 159 targets/111 receptions, both by far the most he has ever had in his career...

As the season gets closer and OTA's ramp up doesn't his trade value drop pretty significantly though? I'd guess any team interested in him would want him ASAP so he can learn the system, etc.

Sure, but we are talking about cutting him. They can hold him for as long as they want. Makes no nevermind for the Browns. Unlike the 49ers with Jimmy, there's no real incentive to cut him (1M is better than nothing, but also not really a reason)

Yeah I always forget that the NFL is drastically different than the NBA. If the same situation were happening in the NBA and a team was keeping a player in bad faith like that it'd be a black eye for the front office when trying to recruit talent in the future. But in the NFL all of that kind of stuff seems to get overlooked.

Exactly. Facts and previous statements refute everything said in the teaser.

It’s because 1 guy can’t make that big of a difference unless he’s a QB.

Players just get tossed into the meat grinder in the NFL and replaced.

They may as well hold out for a Sam Bradford situation, at this point.
