Saints re-sign Jameis Winston (2 years, $28M, $21 GTD)

I still have a lot of concerns about Jameis.

He was able to improve his decision making, it seemed, over a small sample size, but he was still sub 60 completion % and under 200 yards a game. I'm not sure he played quite as well as people remember. He's also losing one of the best offensive minds in Sean Peyton.

With that being said, not a bad price and he has familiarity so I get it. Don't hate it but don't really love it.

Good move. He's got potential to be very good. I wonder if this marks the end of the Taysom Hill experiment?

It does… Allen said earlier this week that Taysom would “not be a consideration” as a QB moving forward

While they are losing Sean Payton, they are going to be getting Michael Thomas back.  Last year there were no proven receiving options outside of Kamara which made the passing game much less reliable than you would've hoped for.  I think that with MT coming back and them possibly even investing high draft pick into one of the many high quality WRs this year that they'll have a much better passing game.

Not to mention, Carmichael will likely be top dog on offense still, regardless of what his official title is. Loomis is loyal.

I liked what I saw from Winston last season. He wasn't asked to carry the team with his arm, but did make plays when needed for us. He made much better decisions than he had in years past. He still pulled off 15 total touchdowns and just 3 interceptions in 6 games (torn acl early on in his 7th game) for a QB Rating of 103. We also went 4-2 with him as a starter last season.

Obviously it remains to be seen if he'd keep that type of production up over a full season, but I'm optimistic. He also did this without Michael Thomas playing last season and his best WR was a 5'6" kick return specialist in Deonte Harris. Thomas is supposedly healthy and ready to go and I'd imagine we add another pass catching weapon still.
