The consistency from the committee is don't lose two games.  Especially by five scores to an unranked team.  Every Saturday has to matter.

Their point is don't schedule any tough game that isn't required because it can only hurt.

Yep.  Though Alabama did at least try to schedule a tough game.

There's no point in scheduling tough OOC games anymore.  All it can do is hurt you.

That's not true.

If that tough OOC game is the one that you lose, it won't hurt you. But if you additionally, lose to a bad team, it will hurt you.

In the 4 years, the committee has proven that they are willing to overlook a loss to a quality opponent. But they won't overlook a bad loss to a bad team.

The incentive to schedule good teams is still very much there.

They are just emphasizing that you can't have a bad loss like this and expect to have that ignored.

If they had scheduled a no one and beaten them by 50 instead of scheduling and losing to Oklahoma, you don't think that would have made the difference?

No I don't think that would have made the difference because losing by 30+ to Iowa was the difference maker

Yea you can lose OOC if you then go undefeated in your own conference which is extremely hard.  There is no point in taking the risk.  The committee hasn't shown they are willing to overlook a loss ever. Which is why it has always been whoever is undefeated + 1 loss teams.

Got OSU in last year and almost kept Washington out.

Losing by 30+ to Iowa was a difference maker for sure, but it becomes a lot less of a difference maker if it's not a team's 2nd loss.  I mean obviously there's no way to know, but that extra loss killed Ohio State.  If they didn't have it then I think they make it.
