Seoul Dragons

Motivation:   New season, new team.   Seoul is looking to start things on the right track this year and take down a talented Greenland squad on the road.

Offensive Strategy:
Formations:    12 Personnel (70%) ,  11 Personnel (20%) , 02 Personnel (10%)
Scheme:  Pass (55%),  Run (45%)
Tempo:  Quick

Passing:   Seoul will come out with a pretty balance pass/run ratio this week.     In the passing game, we want to use our talented TE corps to help control the edge rush as well.   We will use Kelce/Freiermuth in motion to help read the defense, while also help chipping on the outside.   While Greenland features a stocked CB group, we think they lack depth in the middle of the field.    We plan to work a strong play action passing game to help control their Edge and LB’s.   We want to attack their LB/S core with our strong interior receiving weapons.   On the outside, we won’t take a ton of deep shots but we will be sending MVS and Parker deep to give that option to Russell.    Along the offensive line, we feel pretty good about our Interior Line, but Armstead be our focus on double teams.

Running:  We want to come out with a power running game this week against Greenland.   They possess a talented Front 7, but we believe we can wear them down throughout the game with an up tempo power scheme.   We will test Greenland’s depth throughout the game, mainly focusing on getting our backs into space between the B and C gaps.   We’d like to get Javonte 20 touches this game, with Pierce and Gibson spelling him.    Game plan will remain the same despite who is in the backfield.    If Greenland comes out with a CB on Kelce/Freiermuth we will use that our advantage in the running game.

Defensive Strategy:

Formations:  4-2-5 Nickel   -    3-2-6

We will role with a heavy rotation along the DL,   with starters only seeing around 60% of the total snaps.    We’re bringing 8 total DL to this matchup to make sure the big boys stay fresh.

Passing:   Any matchup against Greenland, starts with limiting their WR’s.   In this matchup, we want to play balanced on the back-end and aren’t going to put extra emphasis on stopping a singular player.   We won’t feature a ton of Man coverage this game, mainly on first downs.    Our base defense will feature a mix over Cover 3 and Cover 1, with a press on the outside.    We want to force Tua to make throws outside the hash on 3rd down.

Our sub-package we will feature a 3-2-6, with Joe Tryon/Sam Williams roaming around the line of scrimmage.   We want to remain flexible on where they are attacking from.   We will send them through the A gaps regularly, to try to get Tua off his spot.   We will run 3 Safeties in this set, with Dugger sliding down and Daxton Hill coming in on the back end.

Man Coverage matchups:

Taron Johnson -   Chris Godwin
Trent McDuffie -  Stefon Diggs
Nate Hobbs -  Ceedee Lamb
K’won Alexander/Kyle Dugger -   Tyler Higbie
Demario Davis -    RB

Rushing:   Greenland has some talented backs, if they can put it together.   Put that with a solid OL and they could potentially have a solid rushing game.   With that said, we aren’t going to put much extra emphasis on stopping the run game.   Dexter/Pierce/Nnadi will plug up the interior and our LB’s can cover ground.   If Greenland decides to go to a more of a run approach, we believe that is in our favor.

Greenland Polar Bears

Motivation: New year, new team, new location, new identity, new roster. We smell the playoffs and are going all out for it

Offensive Formations: 3WR/1TE/1RB (30%), 2WR/2TE/1RB (30%), 1WR/2TE/2RB (30%), 4WR/1RB (10%)

Offensive Tempo: For this game we will be working with multiple tempos.  We want to start the game with a traditional tempo on offense and then choose our spots to go fast. We don't believe Seoul has the (quality) depth to hang with a fast tempo so when we get them on their heels we will slam down the pedal.

Designed Playcall Distribution: 45% pass, 40% run, 15% playaction/RPO/screens

Running game: Our running game this week will be used on early downs to shorten the chains and keep us ahead of them.  We want to manage down and distance as much as possible and will do this by attacking Seoul's weakness on D, their edge defenders and linebackers.  We will feature a heavy dose of zone blocking schemes to the outside with Barkley and Edmonds.  We want to give our backs the ability to use their speed and vision to find the lanes including cutbacks.  Getting Seoul's edge defenders and linebackers moving in space should give us the advantage with our top notch run blocking.   Look for Barkley to have a heavy load in the first half and on early downs with Edmonds getting more 3rd down plays and 3rd quarter touches to switch up the style and keep Barkely fresh for the 4th quarter.  One of the keys to our running this game will be using our Jumbo package about 30% of the time (1WR/2TE/2RB).  This will get extra beef to attack higher levels as well as bringing in the D to the box allowing our back to get to lanes on the edge with less traffic.

Passing game: We are starting the season with a lot of weapons on offense.  Our WR's are undoubtedly the best in the league and what we will lean on to keep the chains moving.   We want to have Diggs and Lamb keep to the outside and upper levels of our layered passing attack.   This will keep things spread out to allow Godwin and Julio Jones to work the middle layers with crossing routes and slants.  Tua is always a fan of TE's which is why we have 2 good ones in Higbee and Kmet.  The layered passing scheme for the WR's will allow the TE's to attack the seams and middle of the field where holes open up from the WR action.  To keep Tua protected more we will keep the running back in more to block and/chip allowing him to scrape off as an emergency check down if needed.  Our goal with Tua is to get him pre snap reads so he will have less to read after the snap.  Lots of motion from the WR's, TE's and RB's willget Tua the information he needs.

Playaction/RPO/Screens: This game we want to be measured and calculated with our playaction calls.  By this we mean we will be calling playaction to take big shots down the field or to get our tempo up with a big play and get the crowd going.  RPO's and screens will be up to Tua to check into based on his presnap reads.  We want the play checked into an RPO when the LB's and S's are moving into the box and screen's when it looks like big pressure is coming.   The screen check downs will be WR screens mostly with an occasional RB screen.

First play of the game: flea flicker deep shot 🚀

Defense Base Formation: 3-4 Man

Passing Defense: Russell Wilson has a big weakness with passes between 10-20 yards, we are looking to force his inaccuracy to show itself often by playing a lot of bump and run man coverage.  This will take away the short/quick underneath passes less than 10 yards and hopefully give our elite pass rushing upgrades to do their thing and rush the QB.  With 2 of the better CB's dogging the outside WR's and the short/quick passes taken away Wilson will have to take a lot of time going through his progressions thus forcing the pass attempts further down the field than where he would like them to be and displaying his poor accuracy at the depth we want him to throw, setting us up for some takeaways hopefully.  We don't feel confident in Seoul's WR's beating us, so to force the throws there, where we can, we will provide a 2nd man over the top of Kelce, virtually taking him out of the passing game.  Using a nice baseball saying, Kelce ain't beating us and that's a fact.  As for pressure, we will be using the 3-4 alignment to bring numerous blitzes and stunts from the inside, outside, linebackers and secondary as well as a lot of fake blitz looks prior to the snap.  We want to try and force Wilson to slow down his timing by forcing him to think a lot, to wait bc of the bump and run coverage, to get frustrated with the pressure and then force the throws to the WR's being covered by our best and in his most inaccurate range.

Run Defense: running a lot of 3-4 base formations should allow extra meat up on the line on the edges and force Seol to run to the middle where our star LB's will be waiting to clog the holes with big Deforest Buckner being a mountain on the inside as well.  We don't foresee running to be a big part of Seoul's offense so we will be focusing a little more on the pass this game and fully expect them to pass on early downs and even short yardage.

Greenland starting a free agent  at edge is a choice

Good to know for next week.  I dont really check rosters until baseball wraps up lol.

Looks like that would mean Travon Walker starts, he had a superstar type game and is a nice upgrade

I think Seoul could have had a chance if they went run heavy/play action offense with a worfully undersized three man front for pickle with a  3-4 defense that has Watt out and JPP a free agent.  If i were pickle, I'd be in a 4-3 with that personnel.  There's no real NT here.  If they had one, buckner and watt would be a nice 3-4 DE combo when watt gets back. but buckner definitely should not be a NT in a 3-4

Moving past that, I agree zone defense is the best way to play Greenland with the gap between WR and CB talent.  It should limit the offense and force Tua to be patient as i do like the Seoul safety combo.

In the end, i don't think Seoul is going to score enough.  There's promise on the team but just not there yet

I’m amazed that so many of you are focusing on the FA on the defensive line and not the fact that Greenland can’t even line up and play without moving a corner over to safety, a position none of these guys have played AFAIK, or using Cover 1/Cover 0 all game.

Peak “how hard can it be?” mentality there, I guess.
