  1. 1. What should the Packers do about their defensive coordinator?

    • Fire MLF, he hired him
    • Fire Joe Barry immediately and get somebody who will play aggressive defense
    • MLF should lay down the law with Barry to stop playing not to lose, get aggressive
    • Ride it out and see what happens this season then make a decision
    • Joe Barry is great

I mean can we talk about how MVS is singled covered on that situation, that was as bad as the Kevin King NFCCG situation, just got lucky this time.

Can't disagree there. For a team that plays a lot of two-deep, we often don't believe in the concept of safety help.

stop being so damn obtuse lol

the last 4 weeks are HUGELY IMPORTANT in figuring out if he stays or not

the data has changed, so should your view.

now it's a matter of what happens the next 5 weeks.

I think the biggest thing that has happened is that we have an offence that can put up points and drives in the first half of games. Complementary football is a very real thing. Playing defence after an offence consistently is going three and out is hard for any team. This defence plays up to the offence.

That's fine. But my eyes tell me a different story than those stats.

It's really very simple....it's time for a change.

Maybe you should stop beating around the bush and just say what you really think.

5.9 YPC and 7-11 on 3rd down

INTELLECTUALLY DISHONEST YOUR EYES DECEIVE YOU DVOA IS KING

Why are these two stats so important to you above all else?

The Packers were 2nd best in 2022 in NFL Team Opponent Third Down Conversions per Game at 4.3. Did it make rats arse differnce? We finsihed 16th in points per game, this year we are ranked 27th in the same metric and are 9th in points per game.

All you got is the 'eyes' argument without the context of looking with 'eyes' at the rest of the League, where the same wank goes on for every team.

yes, and this is also captured in DVOA!

so while that certainly helps the absolute result, the relative result is still much better recently than it had been.

DVOA definitely includes the situational aspects of this (except TOP, rest is not directly measured I don't think). But field position certainly is.

How other teams play doesn't have anything to do with whether or not Barry's scheme is awful or not. I don't need league "context" to see that.

In 2022, teams consistently gashed us on the ground (26th in yards, 28th in yards per attempt) and we were 26th in points per drive. This year? 29th, 29th and 15th. In 2021, teams had to pass more because we were ahead but they were 30th in YPA and 20th in points per drive.

The simple fact is Joe Barry is not a good defensive coordinator. I don't need to look at the rest of the league to realize it. I also don't need someone who blindly defends him because he was nice to him telling me he's a good DC.
