A bye isn’t just about the games though. It’s about not having to practice all week and game plan and fly to and from away games etc. We really can’t call what these teams have just had a “bye”

Another issue with that proposal is that if the entire NFC has a bye between the WC and divisional round. That would take away the advantage of the 1 seed for whoever gets it. Although if you play the NFC divisional on the same weekend as the AFC wildcard THEN give the NFC a week off, that would work.

The NFC #1 seed would get the bye during the NFC wild card weekend when Bills vs Bengals would happen. Then the AFC 1 seed would get the bye the next week when the AFC wild card round happens.

because the Bills shouldn't be playing this weekend. Were the Bills to play a 4-12 team this weekend, that game would be no contest as well (assuming no WC byes this year).

This is conjecture at best. The news over the last 24 hours has been absolutely positive and all signs out of Buffalo are not only are they ready to play. They can’t wait to get out there and make a statement

They should just not play the game, go to seeding by win pct and not mess with anything else. That has the most minimal effect, and really only the ravens get screwed over. But now the ravens can rest their starters too, so maybe its a blessing in disguise

Sean had to know that it could hurt the Bills standings if he didnt play. He made the right choice, but sometimes when you make the right choice, you have to sacrifice in other areas

As for the Ravens, too bad.

You’d think after 122 pages you’d have read how that one game affects like 8 teams. Not playing the game doesn’t just screw the ravens.

And adding an 8th playoff team makes things better somehow?

Also, no. 8 teams arent hurt by this game not being played. Its simply not possible.

Well they are not playing the game. And the win percentage for seeding is likely exactly how it will be done

Winning percentage makes most sense to me.

Chiefs still need to win this weekend to earn a bye.

Bills still need to win to potentially earn a bye and to earn the 2nd seed

Bengals win the North and can still potentially get the 2nd seed with a win.

Ravens can rest players knowing they can’t win the division.

Pats don’t get a gimme game meaning the Dolphins and Steelers are still very much alive

I do t want to nitpick here but I just want to clarify that IF the Bills were to beat the Bengals and win week 18, they wouldn’t need the Chiefs to lose week 18 to secure the 1 seed.

But my point is the Bills aren't guaranteed to beat the Bengals.  They aren't guaranteed anything.  So ya'll could end up playing in Week 19 and it hurt one or potentially both teams because everyone else was given the week off.

It's a heated rival. Of course they will be amped up to knock them out... only to have to play them again potentially with an expanded playoff field (if only 1 of the Steelers/Dolphins win). They need to decide this thing obviously before Sunday, preferably by tomorrow. Perhaps Hamlin could travel and be in the box by WC weekend, but regardless, it would suck if the Bills had to face the Pats two weeks in a row.

"if seeding b/w the two teams was affected"

Leaves me wondering - Let's say Bills/Chiefs/Bengals all win next week and Bills have claim to 1 seed, sans this game being missed, so they schedule the AFCCG for Indy and give Chiefs 1 seed + bye.

Now let's say the Bills and Bengals both get bounced in round 1 (just for argument's sake).

Would the AFCCG be in Indy or KC at that point?

I would assume it would be in KC.

IMO the AFCCG should only be a neutral site if it is a combo of  KC/CIN/BUF playing one another.
