I consider PFF a summarization/standardization of "production". It's through one lense but it's based on an overall series of standardized metrics. RAS is its own thing. He factors in size but I don't know if he REALLY factors in size.

A 5'7, 160 lb WR running 4.39 is athletic and impressive. Calvin Johnson running 4.39 is superhuman. I believe the RAS is based off of the top score for a particular position (giving it a score of 10) and then downgrading against that score.

Size would be twice as proportional to 40 time in that example. Maybe it should be weighed differently, but yeah.

My only thing with this is, in terms of weight, being heavier isn't always better.

It's better if you can move in the same way. If a 330 lb DT can run as fast as a 290 lb DT, I want the bigger dude.

Yea I'm with you, I should've said, in terms of the RAS, it seems like they only do weight as a percentile with no context.

In my worksheet, I have a factor for height and weight. I'll average out the group in terms of height and weight. Then I'll either discount or add to the scoring.

Ex. Say the average size for a DT is 305 lbs. If we're using a measuring stick like the speed score (out of 100) and two DT's ran the same 40, I would treat it like this.

330 lb = +8.2% > Bonused for running faster for a person their size

290 lb = - 4.9% > Discounted for running slower for a person their size

Ok, I did some tinfoil hatting.

Lions asst coach Shaun Dion Hamilton coached at the Senior Bowl.

He coached Julius Brents, Darius Rush, Darrell Luter, and Tyrique Stevenson 👀

He also coached Safety Chamarri Conner who scored 613.60.

Last year, the Lions coached against Kerby Joseph in the Senior Bowl. Take this info with a grain of salt.

So this all comes down to what you value more - athletic traits or production (as perceived by PFF).

Lions also coached Senior Bowl in 2021 and that’s where they got excited about Derrick Barnes.
