KJ is certainly fine, but it always seems his catches come in bunches and then he disappears for good portions of games.

It should also be noted that KJ has played with Kirk his entire career, while Jarius had to play with the likes of Ponder, Teddy, Case and Bradford.  Despite that, Jarius was often a third down machine with over half of his catches being on critical third downs.

Such is the life of a WR3, make the plays when your number is called. I don't think anyone would argue otherwise that KJ and Jarius both did that.

I think the Chiefs would be happy to have either as their #1 after last night!

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson is not expected to sign a contract extension before Sunday's opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday night.

Both sides made a strong effort to get a deal done, but the plan now is to revisit it after the season, sources told Schefter.

I'd rather get it done now before someone else gets a ridiculous deal and JJ goes from there.

Jefferson will be the highest paid receiver regardless though.

it's not the amount of the contract that the two sides are hung up over, it's how much is guaranteed.

Jefferson's agent wants his entire contract guaranteed, citing that he has performed differently than any other receiver has so his contract should reflect that.

It's posturing. Both sides hold leverage. For the Vikings, JJ is under contract for two more years (they will pick up his 5th year option) and can be franchised for two more years after that. For JJ, he's the top player at his position and is on track to being one of the greatest to ever play. Both sides are right to exercise the leverage they perceive they have. The Vikings are probably right to not accede to a fully guaranteed contract. While JJ has certainly been durable so far, ACLs, MCLs, concussions and the like are a significant risk for a receiver. Jefferson is right to demand it to see if he can get it. It's too bad a deal hasn't been reached yet, especially since JJ is going to play the season with nothng more than a $2.4MM salary guarantee, but it certainly doesn't mean a deal won't be reached. He's quickly becoming one of the faces of the NFL and his value to the team extends past what he does on the field. I don't think the Wilfs are going to let him go. As good as Diggs and Harvin were, they weren't JJ and weren't nearly as valuable from a marketing standpoint.

There’s not much incentive for JJ to sign a deal this year. The team picked up his 5th year option, so any extension isn’t going to kick in until 2025, anyways.

In the meantime, next year year a lot more top WRs are going to be eligible for new contracts. Unless the Vikings give JJ exactly what he wants, it’s likely in his best interest to let guys like Lamb, Chase, and Waddle sign before him. And then sign a deal to top them.

The incentives are getting bonus money now and guarding against injury. But yeah, I don't think the situation is nearly as dire as Florio wants to believe.

everything you wrote here is spot on. it's as if you have professional experience with contracts or something. lol

and your last point about Diggs and Harvin, and JJ outplaying their value, is also magnified by how mature and team friendly he has been through all of this. Diggs and Harvin team friendly...? Diggs and Harvin being mature...? hardly.
