Offense:

With Lattimore going down, Liuget getting limited snaps this week due to injury, and Compton starting a number of LBers that have mediocre or worse coverage ability; this week we look to have a 60-40 split of pass to run ratio.

With Lattimore going down, Compton is left solely with three active cornerbacks on roster. Casey Hayward, and nickelbacks Bobby McCain and Terrence Newman. Last week, they trotted out Will Remond who is on the Chiefs practice squad and is a weekly inactive. Lacking depth, we will be attacking Compton’s corners all day as they will not have the endurance to be able to last the entire game with no time off the field. The two matchups in particular we will focus on is with McCain and Newman who are currently out of position sliding to the outside corner position. We will be running a lot of verticals, especially out of the slot. We will also be throwing in medium and shorter routes as McCourty tends to play cover one the past couple weeks and will not be in position as he is the sole person left to keep Compton from getting beat deep.

This week we also welcome back Greg Olsen. We will be targeting a lack luster LBer corp that is deploying a run thumper in Karl Joseph to be a coverage on the TE as in previous weeks. Additionally, look for some screen passes to Fournette and Forte to see what coverage they have in place with Wright and Whitehead.

For the other 40% we will be running the ball, especially towards Liuget and McPhee’s side of the line as both are coming off injury. With our offensive line at full strength, we will look to keep the defense honest and not try to heavily blitz Goff by providing Fournette the bulldozer multiple opportunities to plunge ahead into the defense.

Defense:

Last time Melvin and Brown faced off, Melvin covered Brown on 88% of his routes in man coverage. He allowed 2 catches on 4 targets for 42 yards due to his physical in your face coverage. We look to wipe out Brown yet again with Melvin this week, while Tankersley matches up with Diggs with over the top help from Bell. Parker and Smith will be handling defending Bennett and Fleener while Kuechly plays the middle of the field to look for the over the middle pass that Keenum enjoys doing with his TEs. He will also corral Lynch out of the back field.

In running situations, Robinson and Peters will clog up the middle while Bennett and Graham corral the runners off the edge. In passing situations, Jones will come on for Robinson to provide a pass rushing specialist and put pressure on Winters and Elflein and tear up Keenum’s pocket. With Kuechly and Smith playing up, Lynch also will not have much running room.
