Interesting note - Georgia Tech Edge Keion White is going to be attending the draft on day 1.

He might be a surprise pick in the 20-31 range.  He strength and movement skills are really good.  He seems like a much more athletic version of Cameron Jordan.  He is a little older but for a team that is looking to get deeper into the playoffs like Jacksonville it might make sense.  Heck, the Saints could take him as a replacement for Cameron Jordan at 29.

I don't know when it happened, but Justin Rogers is about as credible as you can get with this info. Pretty sure in the Campbell interview during the owners meeting he confirmed the meeting.

I believe that they had one scheduled. There's nothing you cited that confirmed it happened. It still might be upcoming, but until I see a follow up I'll be wondering if they went through with it

I've never heard of an interview being cancelled. Could it happen, sure, but we'll never know.

Edit: and just like that, we have our answer

  • Darkangelo - 6'1, 230 lbs - 77.1 OVR; 85.6 RDEF; 57.8 COV
  • Graham - 6'2, 220 lbs - 67.5 OVR; 64.5 RDEF; 69.9 COV
  • Nowaske - 6'2, 234 lbs - No PFF Score
  • McCaskill - 6'0, 220 lbs - 51.1 OVR; 56.9 RDEF; 51.5 COV

Just highlighting a few guys from the local visits. It might provide some perspective on what the Lions are looking for in terms of their prospects.

Nowaske had an incredible pro day

  • 40: 4.50 (1.59 10YS) = 117.60 Speed Score (Elite - Top 5%)
  • VJ: 34.5 (Top 30%)
  • BP: 25 (Top 30%
  • BJ: 122" (Top 20%) > 184.65 Explosion Score (Top 10%)
  • 3C: 6.75 (Elite)
  • SS: 4.20 (Top 30%) > 10.76 Agility Score (Elite - Top 5%)

He offers some solid athletic tools, seems to have a good head on his shoulders and was productive. He's a guy that would need some time to develop and get up to speed but he has some promise either as a late round or UDFA guy.

I watched an interview from a 49ers podcast. Nowaske comped his game to Anthony Pittman. He mentioned how Saginaw Valley State ran a similar defense to AG and the Lions.

Weird that it had been reported as done but is only now happening. Interesting in how Arizona hasn't brought him in despite rumours/mock drafts he could be taken there.

Mock drafts aren’t worth much. Mocks have shown Detroit taking numerous players.

Also, it’s not the time of year to listen to rumours.

Regarding visits, this has been nagging my brain... Do we have confirmation that Carter visited the Lions? All the stories were that he "will visit," and that was the same day that Campbell made his "interesting information" comment. I never saw a follow up story that he came in today and talked to the team yadda yadda, or they went somewhere to meet with him. Do we know if that happened? Because if it didn't, well that obviously says a lot.

Personally,  I think the Lions bringing him in for a visit might be a way to get someone to move up to get him at 6.  Brad Holmes is doing really good job of playing "pre-draft poker"

Quote

“It means something to them. They’re snap-to-whistle. They endear themselves to teammates. And they’re productive.”

https://lionswire.usatoday.com/2023/04/15/dan-campbell-lions-draft-prospect-traits-players-who-fit/

  • endear themselves to teammates: Being a team captain would indicate this although not exclusively
  • Productive: Seems like the team is more focused on "what have you done" vs "what could you do", less projection
  • Snap to whistle: Emphasis on effort
  • Means something to them: Football is important to them, there's a passion
  • 'It' Factor:
Quote

“I don’t know how many guys we’ve met with at this point,” Campbell said. “Really, over these two to three days, let’s call it 30 guys, 35 guys. And I’ve check-marked four guys. And to me, they got the ‘it’ factor. Just when you sit in there and you hear them talk about football, there’s a fire burning in them. And they can’t sit in their seat. They got to get up to talk. They got to tell you what’s going on. … You can’t fake that. When you have that, you love ball. And you’ll eat and breathe it, do anything for it and do anything for your teammates. And you’re uber-competitive.”
