Alabama has three QBs in the HOF, you dork.

Kenny Stabler was drafted in 1968, 51 years before Hurts was drafted.

Between those dates Jeff Rutledge is arguably the most successful Alabama QB in the NFL.

Hold up now, let’s not forget the legendary Brodie Croyle…

Alabama / Clemson didn't produce good pro QB's either, until they did, with guys like Lawrence/Watson and Tua/Hurts/Mac.

Alabama has three QBs in the HOF, you dork.

So… is this a genuine response? Serious question.

Yeah the " all whatever position from whatever school suck" takes are lazy and dumb.  What one player did has nothing to do with another.  All Jeff Tedford QBs were bad...until Aaron Rodgers.  All TT air raid QBs were jokes...until Patrick Mahomes.  If your biggest reason for not thinking a player can play is the school they came from, you're being lazy and you need to stay out of evaluation conversation.

I think the flaw that these people don’t account for is coaching changes at the collegiate level and the subsequent philosophy changes in how an offense is ran.

Does it make sense to penalize a QB prospect because Jim Tressell coached there in the ‘00s?

One guy said "OSU QBs suck at the next level" and he was right. I don't know what that has to do with specific coaches or years. It's an inarguable fact. It might not have any bearing on future prospects etc, but people are reaching for reasons that this is wrong when it just isn't.

The bold is all that really matters to me. It could be fact - but people trying to use it to extrapolate future results is an argument that's rooted in poor logic and bad faith.

Okay, on the flip side. Does this mean we cannot say Iowa has produced good TEs or that Wisconsin produces good Olinemen? Or that we cannot factor that into our future analysis and must forfeit our ability to evaluate? This is some weird gatekeeping.

You can just as easily point to guys such as TE CJ Fidorowitz or OL Michael Deiter (amongst others) to say that these schools don’t… no school has a 100% hit rate on any position at any time. Taking it back to QB, what school can boast good QB production? Alabama? Are we really crowning Mac Jones?

I just thinks it’s safer to measure the merits of a prospect strictly on the prospect themselves. Don’t forfeit evaluations, but make them player-centric over school/conference-centric, if that tracks.

For all of the people bashing OSU QB's, it's hilarious to me that we aren't doing the same for OU QB's. Between Bradford, Baker, and Kyler, we have 3 #1 overall bust Heisman winners alone.

OSU has had exactly 3 total QBs drafted in the 1st Round ever.

Schichter gambled and did cocaine on his way out of the league.

Haskins was well documented why he failed and to be blunt, if Joe Burrow doesn't break his thumb that spring, he doesn't even win the QB job that year.

Fields is TBD.

Who else are we expecting to really have been a contributor in the NFL? 6th Rounders like Craig Krenzel? Troy Smith? Bobby Hoying and Joe Germaine?

As well as the Heisman winning (yet undrafted) Jason White... But we were quick to put Spencer Rattler on a watch list after his 2020 season, and even quicker to put Caleb Williams in his spot after Williams took Rattler's job.

At some point, the old narrative about USC QB's could be the new narrative about Lincoln Riley QB's if Williams ends up being a bust. And then imagine if somehow Rattler continues his streaky play in the back half of last year, parlays that into a starting job, and looks legit good in the NFL...that's a terrible look for Lincoln.
