Yeah Shipley is CMC lite (CMC as a pro I don't remember what he was like as a prospect at all). But someone's gonna have to explain to me why he's not an early 2nd at worst guy.

Shipley was a big time prospect. Offers from all over the country.

He's just not that good.

Shipley is my flavor of the week at RB right now. Definitely a great fit for us.

Marshawn Lloyd is my current most Packer-ish RB.

220lb at 5'9". Has a nice bbb (could be big bubble butt, but in this case its bowling ball build). Can make sharp cuts, is a decent receiver and is fast enough (4.46 40). I'd like bigger hands, but that is nitpicking.

Shipley is fast (4.42 40), but 205lb at 5'11" is marginal.

@beekay414 just out Shipley highlights on. 3 min into I was thinking "some team is going to take him high to be their McCaffrey light"

I assume he gets that comparison? I haven't read a word about him yet, but immediately his play style reminded me of CMC

He's not the physical freak that CMC is but he's dynamic, yes. Doesn't quite have that kind of upside.

Jerzhan newton has been falling to 25 a bunch this week on pff. Not sure why it is happening all of the sudden, but would probably be a good pick if it happens.

Will need a year or two to develop

First everyone here is raving over White Jesus from Iowa. Now everyone wants to talk about Will Shipley like he's CMC.

Shipley will find himself as a serviceable RB in the league for 7-8 years but pump the brakes on the CMC comparison.

Not opposed to drafting him in like the 4th round. He's not that big and with his running style he takes a pounding. He's a tough SOB though you have to give him that.

He would be a wonderful "get" at #25.  Sure, we have DL right now.

But he's got some "special" in him.  Imagine being able to walk away from Kenny Clark and not pay him a 3rd deal, while spending much less to retain Slaton and pairing him with Newton/Brooks/Wyatt.  (No clue if Wooden really pan out)

Good for that DL room, good for the cap.

When I see Shipley, I see a great limited use back.  Not really a 3rd down specialist, but he would thrive in that role.  But I'm thinking the Aaron Jones role of late.  8-15 carries.  Couple catches.  More if needed for a few games.

I dig him.  And I feel like your 4'th round thought is great for him.  Not opposed to moving that up a round, either.

One of the things said about CMC as a prospect - and certainly after his Combine - was if he didn't make it as a RB he might be the best slot receiver in the NFL.    During the Combine people raved about his catching ability being better than the WR's that were there.   Shipley is not at CMC's level in that part of his game

Here's a look at McCaffrey's pros and cons coming into the NFL:

Pros:

  • Ability to make defenders look silly at all three levels
  • Capable and experienced kick and punt returner
  • Excellent hands coming out of the backfield and can be used from the slot

CMC was 5'11 202

De'Vone Achane was 5'8" 188

I'm with you that I like Marshawn Lloyd more than Shipley, but Shipley is plenty big enough if the plan isn't to run him between the tackles 15 times a game which it won't be.     IMO Lloyd could be an every week 15-20 touch a game back.  Shipley could do that over a number of weeks but is best suited as a complementary back imo
