Crazy that we've ended up in a place where people in here are actually mad that we won a game midway through the season. I get the sentiment. But of the top 10 QB's in the NFL right now, only two were top 5 picks. Meanwhile, the list of QB's taken in the top 5 since 2018: Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Kyler Murray, Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Trever Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, and Anthony Richardson. Being a top 5 pick doesn't guarantee a thing.

I would rather watch this team fight, claw and scratch its way to a 5-12 record than purposely tank an entire season just to reach on some overhyped idiot like Caleb Williams. Ah yes, Caleb Williams. The guy who is already so full of his own bullsh*t that he actually thinks he deserves an ownership stake in the team that's stupid enough to draft him. Bo Nix will be a better pro than Williams. And he'll be available between 5 and 10. I get that you gotta have your franchise QB. But the damage you do to that locker room by purposely losing creates a toxic environment in which NO QB will succeed.

The thing about QBs is that its not about where they are drafted as much as it is about developing them. The Broncos have not so quietly been one of the worst teams in NFL history at developing QBs. The 2nd and 3rd best QBs in their franchises history were both veterans acquired via free agency and #1 was the greatest QB prospect of all time.

They need as 'cant miss' of a prospect as they can get to avoid another Osweiler/Lynch/Tebow situation.

Oh and Bo Nix has been playing college football since before Covid existed lol He is essentially Stenson Bennett and will be 24 years old by the draft. If he goes anywhere before the mid-2nd I'll will be shocked.

Kareem Jackson four game suspension.

It will get reduced by appeal, probably to 2 or 3.

Which is important, because when he plays, it hurts our chances to win games.   Dead serious on that.  He's lost that crucial step, takes bad angles in run support, and obv the stupid penalties.   Won't matter vs. KC or @ BUF, but obv matters more after that.

At what point do we start worrying about that Riley Moss selection, by the way?

On a team with maybe the worst CB depth in the league, he can't get himself on the gameday active roster.

We gave up a high 4th and more importantly, a 2024 3rd (likely to be high) for him. Its not looking great, is it?

We should just stop trading with the Seahawks. Like, ever. We've all been scarred for life with the Alphonzo Smith and Russell Wilson trades as it is.

Because it's year 1, wouldn't worry yet.   Even on a bad roster.    If he can't find his way once we're officially eliminated - then it's time.

I do wonder how much talent evaluation falls to Vance Joseph, as well.      VJ keeps playing Kareem Jackson over PJ Locke even in pass situations.    In theory, Vance made his bones as a DB coach.   I'm not sure I trust many of his talent evals, so it's hard for me to get worried about who's sitting and who's playing with VJ at the helm.  When there's nothing left to play for but 2024+ officially, though, it would be incredibly dumb even for VJ not to turn to the rookies.

As well as playing the redundancy of Jewell/Singleton over Drew Sanders, especially in pass coverage

I think Sanders has had a decent amount of snaps. And, let's be honest - he's been pretty horrendous in his time on the field.

I'm not someone who believes young players should just automatically plan extensively because of their age. My concern re: Moss was the fact he couldn't earn the right to play despite our issues in the Defensive Backfield.

Personally, I don't buy the, "Payton hates rookies" stuff. We aren't talking about him starting or getting extensive snaps; he can't get himself ACTIVE. That's a concern in my eyes.

I also don't think Payton makes the calls on D.

Wasn't he hurt during TC, maybe beyond?

I just see Singleton and Jewell as the exact type of player, neither one can really cover a TE, RB, etc making them one-dimensional. Even is Sander's makes mistakes, he's learning for the future,

I never want to see the Broncos lose a game - so I am delighted with the win against the Packers

I understand that people want to get close to the top of the draft - but you cannot adopt that approach because you'll end up being a perennial losing team - always picking near the top of the draft and always continuing to lost (think the Browns for years - and they are still not challenging for a SB).

Now - I think the draft is a great idea - it is a levelling mechanism to create competition between teams - unlike soccer where the richest teams simply buy the best players. However, the downside is that the NFL does not have relegation and promotion - something which facilitates bad teams and badly run teams never needing to get out of that situation to survive. Of course - unlike soccer where it costs a lot of money to own a team - the NFL is highly profitable. Ignoring the money pouring into English soccer clubs by the Sheikhs and others who have written off massive debts and investments - the PL clubs currently have debts amounting to over $5billion and climbing.
