Baltimore

Offense
TL;DR – Designed runs for Lamar, use RPO and playaction, force the DL to slow down and read the action.

Camden has a very good DL, so we are going to use a number of strategies to slow them down and make them think.  We are going to use RPO action, playaction/bootlegs, and draws/screens to slow down the pass rush.  Also, there is always the threat of Lamar running.

Running Game
We are going to rotate all three RBs in and out throughout the game.  All three can catch reasonably well, so they will get a few opportunities out of the backfield.  We are going to make use of plenty of RPO action from shotgun, let Lamar read the D, and give or keep the ball.  We will also put Lamar under center and use execute a more standard stretch run game.  Lamar is our best runner, so we want to get him 10 or so designed QB runs at least.  He will also have the freedom to take off if something doesn’t open up.

Passing Game
We plan on helping our guys get open through the RPO and playaction action and give them the chance to make plays.  Evans, Dotson, and Kittle will all get plenty of targets as we aren’t going to shy away from anyone in Camden’s secondary.  As mentioned above, we are going to scheme ways to get them open.  We will use some bootlegs off of the stretch playaction to get Jackson on the perimeter and let him decide how to attack.

3 WR – 60% - Evans/Dotson/Mooney/Kittle/RB – Our base set.  Lamar will be in shotgun regularly for RPO action.  We will have some standard runs and playaction from this set as well.

2 TE – 25% - Evans/Dotson/Kittle/Logan/RB - We want to get Logan involved a fair amount this game as we like him against Cancun’s 3rd LB or S.  Look for a fair amount of playaction here.  Also, Lamar loves his 2 TE sets.

3 TE – 10% - Evans/Kittle/Logan/Heyward/RB – Heyward will line up as a FB.  We will use this set in short yardage and goalline.  We will frequently split the RB out wide in this formation to force a LB or S to leave the box.  Then Lamar will run behind Heyward.  If the defense sucks up hard, we will throw behind them.

4 WR – 5% - Evans/Dotson/Mooney/Duvernay/RB – We will sparingly use a 4 WR set in hurry up situations if need be.  If they run man and clear out the middle, Lamar may run.

Defense
TL;DR – No explosive plays, force Baker to stay patient, rotate DL to keep them fresh.

We are going to use a mix of Cover 3, 4, and 6 with some Cover 1 man used on 3rd down to force their offense off the field.  We will use these zone coverages as Baker and their WRs do their most damage via explosive plays and we want to combat that.  We will force Baker to stay patient and string together completions.

Defensive Line
Camden has a very good offensive line.  Luckily, we are getting healthier on the defensive front.  We will be rotating guys regularly to keep them fresh so they can be the most effective.  Burns and Hargrave will rotate out less frequently than everyone else as we need them on the field.

LB/SS – Wagner will have the green dot to make sure the defense is in order and will be able to change the call if he sees fit.  He will almost always be in a middle zone to patrol for crossers.  Barton will play the other LB spot and will have the TE in man coverage.

McKinney will typically be up closer to the LOS and will have the RB in man coverage

CB – We are going to keep our guys on their sides to not tip coverages pre-snap.  They’ll take the guy across from them in man and drop into their respective areas in zone.

If they go with a 4 WR set, Barton will come off for Awuzie.

FS – Holland will always be deep and his primary focus is defending against the deep ball.

Camden

Offense

Man blocking running game – We think Baltimore defensive line can be ran on. Leonard Williams is by far the best run defender they have inside and he’s not having a good year, while Brian Burns has been a weak run defender all his career. So aside from maybe Epenesa or Paye, we think we have the advantage upfront and intend to benefit from it. Ekeler and Moss will split carries evenly. If Lane Johnson is out, Zach Tom will play RT but our plan won’t change.

Attack the second level – We expect Baltimore to come at us with zone looks mainly because they can’t cover 1 on 1 our guys. Therefore, we will have a lot of bunch formations to overload Baltimore zones. We will target the sidelines and the intermediate areas mainly as the strength of Baltimore defense is pretty clearly its safety duo. Brown and Kupp will receive around 10 target each, the rest will be split between Collins, Ekeler, Moss, Pitts (comes in for passing downs) and Higbee. Should they choose to go with man coverage, we will target relentlessly AJ Brown and Cooper Kupp on short to intermediate routes because we think they can beat anyone in Baltimore secondary.

Protect Baker – We think our OL can hold up against Baltimore DL. We’ve made a few changes inside as Meinerz is more reliable than Jenkins in pass protection thus far while Whitehair has become a liability. Hargrave is a good player that we respect, and he will face some double teams on non-blitz situations. If necessary, Higbee or Pitts can chip outside to provide additional help outside, or we can have Ekeler/Moss stay in pass pro/run delayed routes to help inside, but we don’t think we will need it.

Defense vs Lamar

We expect Lamar to start but we’ve prepared for the eventuality of Purdy starting.

Eight in the box – We don’t have a ton of respect for Baltimore outside weapons aside from Mike Evans, so our main priority in this game is going to stop the run. On early downs, we intend to stack the box and force Lamar to beat us through the air. When in man, we will have Dean spy on Lamar while, in zone, our second level will read and react to make sure Lamar doesn’t get huge running lanes.

Coverage mix – We will use a mix of coverages to keep Lamar guessing. We will play a lot of zones (60%) – cover 2 and cover 3 - including a majority of zone blitzes (40%) mostly with Luvu. We don’t think Baltimore is explosive enough to take advantage of zone blitzes so we will take our chances here. In man (40%), we will have Hooker playing deep zone on Evans side of the field and force Lamar to look elsewhere. Our man responsibilities will be listed below, but in zones Douglas and Sneed will follow their outside receivers to not tip our scheme:

Evans – Douglas
WR2 – Sneed
WR3 – Samuel
Kittle – Ward
Thomas – David
Mattison – Luvu
Lamar spy - Dean

Heavy Rotation – Baltimore has a tough OL but we have a tough DL. We will once again apply heavy rotation inside and outside as Osa, Granderson and Mafe are very good options as rushers and run defenders. In addition to Luvu blitzing on a decent chunk of plays and what we hope to be strong coverage, we hope this rotation will help our guys pressure Lamar. A’Shawn Robinson comes in only for running downs.

Defense vs Purdy

Man cover 1 with Kittle doubled – If Baltimore chooses to start Purdy, we’re less threatened by his ability to run and will turn our focus more into our pass defense. We will mostly play a man cover-1 with the following responsibilities. Luvu will blitz on around 20% of the passing snaps.

Evans – Sneed
WR2 – Douglas
WR3 – Samuel
Kittle – Luvu + Ward
Thomas – David
Mattison – Dean
Deep Zone - Hooker

Heavy Rotation – Baltimore has a tough OL but we have a tough DL. We will once again apply heavy rotation inside and outside as Osa, Granderson and Mafe are very good options as rusher and run defenders. In addition to what we hope to be strong coverage, we hope this rotation will help our guys pressure Purdy. It should also help our run defense. A’Shawn Robinson comes in only for running downs.

This one is tough. Really like the gameplan from Camden. Rags did a nice job for Baltimore also. Lamar is playing great football right now. Going to have to think on this one. Jonah Jackson was inactive so one of Morgan Moses or Dan Moore would have to fill that spot on the line. Baltimore is a talented team. If they could get some better/more consistent play at RB and more out of their receivers to help out Evans and Kittle their offense has a really good potential line as well.

Camden called the offensive gameplan from Baltimore and I like the plan to stack the box and force Jackson to beat them through the air. Evans and Kittle are going to get theirs, but it's a strong defense in Camden and it was the right move imo. I'm all for letting Baker bake in this one. Might feel differently about this game in a few weeks, but for now I'm taking Camden.

Fun game. Baltimore’s offense is set up for success. Dean spying Lamar sets up tremendously for Baltimore so Jackson has a lot of rushing upside if he can step up in the pocket. Baltimore will have trouble protecting Lamar’s right side but they should be able to hold up nicely considering how good Camden’s pass rush is.

Douglas is having a solid year but I think Evans has a chance to make some plays in this one. I also like Kittle’s matchup against Jimmie Ward. Hooker playing deep is an added benefit but Inspite of not having high end RB play I think Baltimore’s offensive production should be good.

Opposite spectrum, Camden’s going to have to throw more than us usual. I think they have the upside w those WRs despite Baker’s floor beginning to be closer to his RL performance. I think Baltimore’s CBs can get some stops but they made a mistake not elevating Chidobe to a greater role. Davis won’t allow AJ Brown to be unstoppable but Brown should still produce. I don’t foresee this defense stopping Cooper Kupp and I can see Camden stringing up a solid rushing performance.

Overall, I think Baltimore pace controls the game. I think they can get to the upper 20s which is probably against what Camden would like. Likewise, I think Camden has the weapons to play a higher scoring game than expected.

I think we get OT, and Lamar does some more Lamar magic to give a big win to Baltimore.
