It should be noted that, at this point, Brugler has the Vikings passing on McCarthy (taken at #19 by the Rams), Nix (taken at #34 by the Pats) and Penix (taken at #44 by the Raiders) Edited January 16 by swede700

Agree...but, then of course, we still won't know what the future of the position is and should he manage to get injured again, puts them in the same exact position as they were this year, without a viable backup...unless of course Hall makes some giant leap.

And you take that chance. If the team re-signs Cousins then the best move forward is to build the best roster around him. And you revisit the QBOTF discussion next year.

There’s generally better solutions than reaching on first round QB, even if they decided to not retain Kirk.

swede700
Quote 11) Minnesota Vikings: J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan Is J.J. McCarthy ready for the big stage in 2024? No he is not. Could he be ready to start in 2025 after sitting behind Kirk Cousins returning on a one or two-year deal? Maybe. Could he be ready after two seasons like Jordan Love? He certainly could. Young passers aren’t often afforded the opportunity to grow in the shadows like a mushroom. However, we’ve seen it work quite a few times at this point. https://www.profootballnetwork.com/dalton-miller-2024-nfl-mock-draft-january/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
GermanVike
McCarthy at 11 seems like a big reach. You could probably trade down to around 15-18, acquire some picks that are sorely needed, and still pick McCarthy. Edit: Especially when you have the raiders trading up from 13 to 6 for a very reasonable price to select Daniels. Minnesota would be stupid to let that happen.
