Week 5: VIKINGS (4-0) vs. Jets (2-2)

In New York's sloppy loss to the Broncos in Week 4, the Jets were flagged 13 times for 90 yards, many of the penalties coming before the snap. Gang Green didn't have quite the same issue overseas in Week 5 but continued to get in its own way.

Tasked with having to shut down the top receiver in the league in Justin Jefferson, New York was flagged five times going up against the gritty Griddier. Pass interference, holding and illegal contact calls on Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed led to five Minnesota first downs and kept a number of scoring drives alive. Jefferson finished with 92 receiving yards -- and 61 yards picked up via penalty.

On a day when the defense was otherwise giving Minnesota fits, holding one of the top offenses in the league to 4-of-13 on third down and 3.8 yards per play, the Jets' lack of discipline in the secondary extended possessions for the Vikings and set the team back. For a coaching staff in its fourth year, it's inexcusable that persistent penalties remain a recurring narrative.

Two crazy Aaron Rodgers stats:

1.) Van Ginkel’s TD was just the 5th pick 6 of Rodgers’ career. That’s insane. There are 12 QBs in NFL history to have 7,000 or more pass attempts. The next QB with the fewest pick 6’s has 18.

2.) When entering the 4th quarter while trailing to a team with a winning record, Rodgers is 0-37.

very crazy!

also this:

With the Jets at 2-3, this is the first time Aaron Rodgers is under .500 through five starts since 2012.

Was Saleh’s defense that tough? Seemed like our receivers were blanketed on every route. To leave with a win but yet be that humbled will only help this team going forward. This bye week comes at a perfect time. Let’s get Jones and Hockenson back and then wreck the rest of the season!! SKOL

Yeah...when not committing DPI, their DBs played very well.

@viking @wcblack34 - I’m going to be in London in 2 weeks - is there a Vikings pub where I can go watch the game vs. the Lions?

Yes there is.  I can't remember its name.  But there is a very large and visible Vikings' Fan Club that will provide that information for you.

The Barrow Boy & Banker Bar is one place in GLA where I think you could watch the game.  I'm sure there are others, as well.

Yeah it was a tough game for them but honestly it was all because of not having Aaron Jones a lot of the game.  The offense is totally different without his big play ability in the run game and as a pass catcher.  It was totally different without him out there, and then they could get after the passer and they did allow multiple sacks to guys not named Quinnen Williams.

Would be curious if whoever it was did not get that roughing the kicker call would it have ever been that close?  Not sure they even replied that play, I never saw it.  But if that did not happen, Vikings could have blew this one out near the end but they let the Jets and Rodgers just hang around to the very end.

Great that the defense can get turnovers, it was not a great day for Darnold, that OL or the Vikings offense in general.  But it was still a win which is crazy, 5-0 at the bye week, pretty sure the odds of that happening when the season started was crazy low.  And they faced some awesome teams, 49ers, Houston, Packers and Jets are all extremely good football teams in the NFL.

Have to be physical though and that OL and the run game has to be there because the WRs are not physical or big, will be nice when Hockenson comes back, he is the best most physical WR they have when he is a flex TE.
